About The Position

Holtec International and its subsidiary companies are designing an unfailingly safe and secure source of clean energy using nuclear fission, called the SMR-300 small modular reactor. The position is offered by SMR LLC as a member of the Holtec International family, a global turnkey supplier of equipment and systems for the nuclear, solar, geothermal, and fossil power generation sectors of the energy industry. Come join a growing multidisciplinary team of designers and engineers designing the next-generation nuclear power plant. Holtec International is seeking applicants for the role of Systems Engineer. The Systems Engineer is responsible for the design of a variety of components and systems for the SMR-300 power plant. This role requires frequent interfacing with other engineering disciplines and licensing groups as well as capable management of system integration activities, such as requirements development, component specification development, and calculations. The Engineer will be part of a team executing a U.S. Government cost-shared development program requiring efficient completion of engineering assignments. The Senior Systems Design Engineer is expected to perform the following: Leads multi-disciplinary system integration activities across major plant systems Responsible for high-risk technical decisions, architecture trade studies, and alignment with licensing and program leadership Establishes technical approaches and ensures design coherence across organizational boundaries Impact significantly influences program execution, safety case development, and long-term design strategy

Requirements

  • BS in an engineering discipline
  • Minimum 10 years of post-graduation engineering experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and resolving high-complexity technical issues
  • In-depth knowledge of heat transfer and fluid dynamics fundamentals
  • Excellent technical writing, interpersonal, and effective communication skills
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree in Mechanical or other engineering discipline
  • Experience working with engineers and manufacturers to develop designs and drawings
  • Experience working in the nuclear energy field in a design capacity
  • Experience with Smart Plant, MathCad, AutoCAD, Pipe-Flo, Engineering Life-cycle Management (ELM), requirements management software (e.g. DOORS-NG), and HTRI software
  • Experience researching and developing requirements
  • EIT and/or PE certification
