About The Position

As a Staff Accountant, you participate in a variety of accounting functions, including purchasing, general ledger, banking operations, accounts receivable and payable, payroll and audit support. In this role, you help departments across our organization create their annual budgets, providing them with templates and historical reports. Periodically, you perform internal audits to ensure that these budgets are adhered to and identify opportunities to increase operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field and at least two years of experience in a governmental or nonprofit entity or associates degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field and at least four years of experience in a governmental or nonprofit entity
  • Demonstrated ability to perform basic accounting functions such as posting transactions, reconciling accounts, using a chart of accounts, preparing or supporting journal entries
  • Working knowledge of GAAP fundamentals and standard accounting workflows (month-end close processes, audit support, etc.)
  • Ability to follow written purchasing policies, prepare, maintain and organize purchasing documentation, and ensure documentation is complete for audit purposes.
  • Computer proficiency, especially in Excel, accounting and payroll software
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with staff, vendors and external contacts
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy in a fast-paced environment
  • Class C driver's license
  • Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) certification OR the ability to become certified after hire

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with procurement, contract negotiations, budget development, project management, and using financial ERP systems in a government setting
