About The Position

This position is located in the Mayor's Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs (MOAPIA) under the jurisdiction of the Executive Office of the Mayor. The mission of MOAPIA is to improve the quality of life for District Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander (AANHPI) residents through advocacy and engagement. MOAPIA advises the Mayor, the Council, and District agencies on the views, needs, and concerns of the AANHPI community. MOAPIA provides recommendations on District programs and initiatives affecting the AANHPI community, and helps coordinate programs and initiatives within the government that promote the overall welfare of the AANHPI community. For more information about MOAPIA, please click here: https://communityaffairs.dc.gov/moapia MOAPIA organizes and facilitates public and private programs on public safety, human rights, economic development, housing, employment, social services, public health, transportation, education, and multicultural development to ensure accessibility for the District’s AANHPI community. MOAPIA is the liaison between the District government and the AANHPI community.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of MOAPIA's mission, goals, objectives, governing laws, and established policies.
  • Familiarity with community-based agencies and organizations serving the AANHPI community.
  • Constituent focused; positive outlook; strong people skills.
  • Highly organized and methodical; Innovative with strong critical thinking abilities.
  • Ability to work and coordinate multiple projects independently or in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to communicate and negotiate effectively with diverse political and cultural entities.
  • Experience in working with people representing a wide range of linguistic, ethnic and racial groups in community-based or neighborhood organizations.
  • Qualified candidates should have 2 years of community outreach, stakeholder engagement, or publicity, preferably in a government or nonprofit setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference for candidates with the ability to speak and write fluently in English and one or more of the following languages: Cantonese, Korean, Mandarin, Vietnamese

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative support such as but not limited to, scheduling the Director’s meetings, answering incoming phone calls, and ordering office supplies.
  • Assists in preparing various reports and maintaining agency website and social media accounts.
  • Manages office documents for supervisor's use in preparing correspondence, meetings, reports, and other events.
  • Manage information systems and databases to track documents, processes, and appointments.
  • Provides administrative support to the team on special events and other projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
