The Advanced Technology Organization is responsible for driving growth through technology by researching customer needs both met and unmet, then finding solutions. Our team supports both military and commercial customers in land, sea, and air domains. The Staff Engineer – Emerging Conversion Technologies will engage in customer and technology exploration to support the development of multi-year product line plans. Your knowledge of customers and markets, based on evidence, guides execution of research & development projects and the technical leadership of select proposal activities. This is a high visibility role requiring self-direction, consensus building, and communication (written and verbal) with senior and executive level leadership. Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in Engineering from an accredited college or university, with a focus in Electronics, Power Electronics, Digital Control Systems, and/or Systems
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in an electrical engineering role with complex product or technology development
  • This position requires U.S. citizenship status.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 10% based on business needs

Nice To Haves

  • Lifecycle design experience from requirements through final application testing
  • Analysis of alternatives or feasibility using simulation tools such as ANSYS EMAG, Simulink, or PLECS
  • Use of Model Based System Engineering tools and concepts
  • Estimating and/or planning highly complex projects for creating new capabilities
  • Design for and testing according to MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-810 or commercial standards such as DO-160
  • Customer-facing activities such as presenting design reviews, eliciting requirements, or application engineering
  • Lean Six-Sigma
  • Advanced Product Quality Planning
  • Proven track record of innovation and problem-solving in complex technical environments
  • Deep knowledge of electrical engineering principles and aerospace applications from device to system level
  • Address new or complex challenges with creativity

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical expertise and develops technical solutions as part of the pre-requisition process while interfacing with the commercial team
  • Possesses a deep understanding of relevant markets and customer economic value that aid winning bid strategies
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure proposed activities meet safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
  • Serves as best practice/quality resource
  • Lead the research and development of advanced electrical systems, components, and architectures for aerospace applications according to standard work and where there is none, actively improve processes
  • Manage multiple, sometimes competing, priorities through efficient work and communication
  • Rapidly create concepts and studies to determine feasibility for high power/high density power conversion and control systems
  • Perform detailed analysis, modeling, and simulation of electrical systems to ensure performance, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Present and communicate technical information (Verbal & Written) for different audiences (Customers, Early Career Engineers, Chief Engineers, Executives)
  • Define, analyze, and improve electrical system requirements for customers
  • Understand the technology to product lifecycle then apply that to maturation plans for TRL & MRL
  • Identify and protect GE intellectual property
  • Analyze patents for key take aways
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and cross-functional teams
