About The Position

The Staff Geoscientist position provides a wide range of support for geoscience-oriented projects. A Staff Geoscientist is expected to approach assigned tasks proactively and critically, applying technical skills for both field and office work. Duties are primarily field-related and include activities such as implementing soil, groundwater, and soil vapor field investigations; sampling various environmental media; and conducting site reconnaissance activities under the direct supervision of project managers and/or senior staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in earth or physical sciences or environmental engineering.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience conducting environmental sampling, Phase l Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), and/or similar applicable experience.
  • Able to efficiently prepare for projects and perform all required fieldwork tasks.
  • Able to accurately recognize indications of contamination and other relevant information to the project during fieldwork.
  • Able to meet deadlines and hours per task targets as assigned by senior personnel; communicate early any potential failure to meet these targets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Effective communication skills – written and verbal.
  • Organization, managing multiple priorities, and oversight of project subcontractors and deliverables.
  • Working knowledge and experience to complete an ASTM E1527 Phase I ESA.
  • Assist with preparation of site characterization and assessment reports.
  • Ability to collaborate with field teams and cross-functional teams throughout the company.
  • A Staff Geoscientist must be able to lift 30 to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with data collection, records review, and records evaluation associated with the ASTM International (ASTM) E1527 Phase I ESA Process.
  • Prepare draft reports in accordance with ASTM standards for Phase I ESA, Phase II ESA, Vapor Encroachment Screening, and/or other pertinent reports.
  • Consolidate field data and prepare draft interpretations and presentations of the data.
  • Assist with all aspects of environmental site assessments and site investigations.
  • Prepare for field projects by ordering necessary equipment, acquiring required permits, and assisting with logistical planning.
  • Assist with site characterization activities; soil, groundwater, and soil vapor sampling; and other monitoring activities.
  • Be able to work independently in the field.
  • Assist with drafting Phase I ESA and monitoring reports.
  • Maintain field equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
