ROLE SUMMARY / PURPOSE: The GE Aerospace Staff Engineer / Technologist demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. In this role you will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning and contribute to the overall business strategy. This Composite Materials Staff Engineer role is embedded in a team of Composite Materials Application Engineers focused on providing experience and mentorship for the team to operate efficiently as possible to deliver on the needs of the business. Additionally, a staff engineer is expected to make significant contributions to the business and industry in their respective area(s) of expertise. The Staff materials application engineer will be responsible for providing materials engineering guidance to support CFM RISE and other GE Aerospace New Technology Introduction (NTI) programs. The staff materials application engineer is responsible for generating the technical content for statements of work that are used to describe the technical and manufacturing requirements for various items, including raw materials, composite laminate preforms, panels, or other sub-components and coupons. After manufacture and/or test of the articles, the staff engineer will be responsible for completing the characterization of the article and compiling results into a technical report. The staff engineer provides guidance on materials and processing advantages and challenges while collaborating with design engineering and other stakeholders to determine the optimum material selection for the desired hardware application. In addition, the staff engineer will be responsible for generating test programs in conjunction with materials characterization experts to ensure the appropriate technology maturation efforts are performed to align with the overall NTI program schedule. This position has numerous opportunities to travel to different GE Aerospace manufacturing sites and suppliers both domestically and internationally, with the ability to expand your network and gain visibility to GE Aerospace leadership as required within this role. This is a hybrid work schedule within a commutable distance to our Evendale, OH location.
