About The Position

As a Staff Mechanical Engineer in our Mako and Enabling Technologies (MET) Research & Development team, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional experts to design, prototype, and deliver innovative robotic solutions that transform patient care. At Stryker, your expertise will directly impact the evolution of robotic-assisted surgery, making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients worldwide. This is a hybrid position based in Portage, MI; candidates must live within commuting distance and be onsite 3-4 days per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Biomedical, or related field).
  • Minimum four years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Experience designing mechanical or electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Proficiency in engineering drawing creation and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles.
  • Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with risk management and quality systems in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and verify components and subsystems for medical devices with minimal supervision.
  • Translate user needs into design specifications and deliver system-level solutions.
  • Lead prototyping and testing efforts to validate design performance.
  • Identify and resolve complex design issues using data-driven analysis to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Apply clinical knowledge to author design inputs and support Voice of Customer sessions.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and mentor others in design control practices.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, including Design History Files.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to drive projects from concept through launch.
