About The Position

Infleqtion is a global company harnessing quantum mechanics to solve complex, real-world problems beyond the reach of today’s systems. Our mission is to commercialize atom-based quantum products that provide orders of magnitude improvement in sensing and computing applications. Founded on Nobel Prize winning technology, Infleqtion is the largest full spectrum commercial quantum technology company in the world. We design and build quantum computers, precision sensors, and quantum software for governments, enterprises, and research institutions. Our commercial portfolio includes quantum computers as well as quantum RF systems, quantum clocks, and inertial navigation solutions. Infleqtion is the partner of choice for governments and commercial customers seeking cutting-edge quantum capabilities. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to own the development and validation of a space-based quantum timing product. This individual will join the Timing and Frequency Mechanical Engineering team and work across design, prototyping, testing, and pre-production to ruggedize an existing product line for this new application. A strong candidate will have hands-on experience with space-based systems design, space-based verification and validation testing, SolidWorks CAD, mechanical design analysis, prototype fabrication, and drawing creation.

Requirements

  • General curiosity about system design, physics, or quantum mechanics
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
  • 5+ years of experience in a professional, product-focused engineering role
  • Well-rounded background in core mechanical engineering principles and concepts
  • High level of skill using Solidworks 3D CAD tools for mechanical design
  • Understanding of ASTM E595 – how to choose materials for space
  • Experience building, simulating, verifying, and validating cubesat and/or space flight hardware designs
  • Experience with thermal or vibration analysis, simulation, and experimentation
  • Experience building proof-of-concept prototypes from the ground up, using 3D printing, off-the-shelf parts, and rapid prototype vendors
  • Experience in a lean, mid-volume manufacturing environment, including debugging design issues that arise in early pre-production
  • Experience with application of GD&T to engineering drawings
  • Demonstrated experience applying Design for Manufacturability and Assembly principles
  • Ability to visually see and focus on fine details of small components
  • Good verbal and written technical communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and/or 7+ years of experience in a professional, product-focused engineering role
  • A portfolio of creative product design solutions that optimize size, cost, functionality, or aesthetics
  • Understanding of a variety of manufacturing processes used on metal, plastics, and glass
  • Familiarity with fiber-optic or free-space optical systems or optical atomic clocks
  • Experience using SolidWorks PDM and Arena PLM or similar document control systems
  • Experience using SolidWorks, ANSYS, or COMSOL design analysis tools

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret complex design requirements, including reference to various industry standards.
  • Apply creativity and resourcefulness to deploy both established best practices and develop non-traditional methods to satisfy novel project demands.
  • Develop CAD models, drawings, and documentation packages for all designs
  • Perform engineering analysis to guide design decisions and communicate that analysis to project leaders both verbally and through documentation.
  • Contribute to technical reviews and project status meetings as the technical design contributor and/or lead.
  • Assemble prototype units and develop assembly procedures for higher volume production.
  • Develop and execute test plans to evaluate mechanical sub-system performance.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing to incorporate DFM/DFA into design and supporting documentation
  • Other duties or projects as assigned
