About The Position

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, University of Chicago Medicine , as a Staff Nurse in the 5NE Med/Surg department. At UChicago Medicine, we bring the world’s most innovative approaches to patients with all conditions, from common to complex. This department is a 16-bed, fully telemetry-capable unit that is functional 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This department treats a wide variety of high acuity adult inpatient populations (at or above 18 years of age) with various types of medical conditions alongside a multidisciplinary team. You will have the ability to work with physicians who are constantly pushing the boundaries of possibility, conducting groundbreaking research, and providing lifesaving, personalised patient care. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity . You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. A staff nurse is a registered professional nurse (RN) who manages patient-centered care that is outcome-directed. Patient-centered care principles and professional nursing practice standards provide the foundation for the nurse to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care provided. The staff nurse assumes the primary responsibility and accountability for all patient care personally provided and that provided by those directly under her/his supervision.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an NLN-accredited School of Nursing
  • Associate Degree in Nursing Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire, and make progress toward and complete their BSN degree within 30 months. ADN nurses receive 100% tuition reimbursement towards a BSN degree from an accredited program
  • Current Illinois RN license
  • Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)

Responsibilities

  • Utilises appropriate assessment skills to determine patient needs.
  • Develops a plan of care for those patients whose needs do not require the expertise of a Case Manager or collaborates with the Case Manager to develop a plan of care for specified patients.
  • Manager or collaborates with the Case Manager to develop a plan of care for specified patients.
  • Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned by the Care Center Director or the Patient Care Manager.
  • Provides support to peers by assisting as needed, being a resource person and working as a team member.
  • Assists the Care Center in the development/attainment of goals and objectives.
  • Uses clinical pathways and/or plans of care incorporating standards of practice.
  • Assesses own need for professional growth and development and seeks appropriate resources to meet needs.
  • Attends continuing education programs and participates in program evaluation.
