Job Summary The RN is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame. Renders professional care in accordance with the physician/provider treatment plan and the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. He/She is a clinical practitioner who coordinates and implements patient care specific to the patient population served on the assigned units. He/She ensures that compassionate, engaged care meets or exceeds quality standards. Care is provided in an efficient and safe manner consistent with the NYS licensure and SHS standard of care. Utilizes nursing skills to determine the biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self care, cultural, ethnic and spiritual and educational needs of the patient/family/significant other to develop, implement and revise the plan of care. In doing so, performs frequent and accurate assessments, interprets and correlates finding, establishes plan of care and implements short term goals. The RN observes patient progress, records pertinent observations, implements physician and nursing treatment plans and evaluates outcomes. The RN recognizes the legal responsibilities as specified by law and abides within those responsibilities. The RN may participate in weekend, holiday, on call, and evening/night rotations.

Requirements

  • Graduate from a School of Nursing.
  • Current critical care experience preferred or a minimum of three years med- surg experience recommended.
  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of nursing principles, ability to provide quality patient care and ability to assess patient’s needs, e.g. clinical, teaching, mental and spiritual.
  • Must recognize safety issues to self and others and be able to assess and implement use of lifts or move patients in a safe manner.
  • Must be able to function well in stressful situations and have good, creative, problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with ability to prioritize and delegate.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills required.
  • Current NYS RN license.
  • BLS required or obtained within 3 months
  • ACLS required or obtained within 6 months
  • IV and IV contrast certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Coronary care course or successful completion of challenge exam within orientation period.
  • Basic lethal dysrhythmia within six months of employment.
  • NIHSS certification within 6 months.
  • Able to pass employee physical prior to orientation.
  • Able to maintain emotional stability.
  • Must be in good physical condition to meet the demands of an active position, including extensive walking, moderate sitting, standing and lifting.
  • Physically able to perform BLS.
  • Must be able to utilize various medical equipment in nursing dept.
  • Performs exposure prone/invasive procedures.
  • Must recognize safety issues to self and others and be able to assess and implement use of lifts or other personnel to lift and move patients of all sizes and weights in a safe manner throughout the entire shift.
