About The Position

Applications are invited for a full-time Staff Scientist position available in the O’Bryan lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Medical University of South Carolina and Hollings Cancer Center. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with excellent analytical and communication skills who has an interest in studying therapeutic resistance in cancer. The goal of our research program is to understand the complex signaling networks that regulated resistance to KRAS inhibition. We study the role of oncogenic KRAS in human cancer cells, using diverse methodology, including protein biochemistry, live cell imaging, pharmacological approaches, in vivo models and novel protein biologics as therapeutics. The position requires the supervision of key laboratory procedures and conducting independent research in conjunction with the Principal Investigator, and to train undergraduate, graduate, medical students, postdocs, and visiting scholars.

Requirements

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Interest in studying therapeutic resistance in cancer
  • The position requires the supervision of key laboratory procedures and conducting independent research in conjunction with the Principal Investigator, and to train undergraduate, graduate, medical students, postdocs, and visiting scholars.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and exceptional time management and a PhD with minimum four years postdoctoral experience is desired.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with biochemistry and molecular biology techniques and knowledge of reporter assay design and development.
  • Previous experience culturing human cells in vitro and working with animal models of cancer.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team; specifically, the candidate must be able to design and execute properly controlled biological experiments independently.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a background in signal transduction pathways and cancer biology.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage multiple scientific projects aimed at understanding the mechanisms of RAS-mediated transformation and tumor development; discovering/developing potential new anti-RAS therapeutics. This includes training and oversight of technical personnel and students to assist in these projects.
  • Design and execution of experiments including cell culture assays, molecular biology techniques such as SDS-PAGE, immunoprecipitation and Western blot analysis, DNA cloning and preparation; recombinant protein production and purification; high-throughput screening assays.
