Maxar is looking for an enthusiastic Staff Software Development Engineer to join its MGP integrations team, with a passion for solving complex problems with customer driven objectives and is willing to learn and develop the tools and technologies related to GIS applications. Our talented MGP integrations team at Maxar consists of full stack developers, Enterprise Architects and database experts who work closely together to build plugins, dashboards, tools and workflows for our Geospatial Products and Production systems supporting our internal and external stakeholders. This role would require the team member to be a quick learner and a senior contributor who would develop full stack solutions to enable and automate workflows within client-side software and also web based applications. You will contribute your expertise to develop front-end UI and also back-end architecture necessary to meet customer requirements. You will be responsible for gathering customer requirements, driving toward deadlines, collaborating with the eGIS DBA to build the add-ins for GIS applications. You would be occasionally tasked with upgrading the GIS environment and infrastructure maintenance and deployments. You will assist with training, documentation, and presentations related to custom solutions. This position is hybrid with several days a week on-site with your colleagues in Westminster, CO or Herndon, VA.

  • Develop new ESRI/ QGIS related add-ins using the SDK, webapps and tools to support internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop RestAPIs and OGC APIs using Java and Python for streaming vector data.
  • Adapt mission requirements to develop new tools, capabilities, or enhance/upgrade existing ones.
  • Incorporate customer feedback into software products.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure quality.
  • Write and optimize ETLs in both Linux and Windows environments using scripting languages: Python and other ancillary languages with associated libraries.
  • Expand the company's geospatial capabilities with open-source and cloud native services and software and integrate with other third party applications.
  • Develop tools or workflows to assist other production teams like Vivid, Tasking, Collection Planning and other Constellation Management teams.
  • Collaborate with other developers throughout the development process, both those on your immediate team and those on other teams that build supporting software.
  • Evolve your language skills by staying current with complementary programming languages, development methodologies, user interface design techniques, and database tools and technologies.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience. Desired degrees include Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geosciences, Remote Sensing, Photogrammetry or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience.
  • 3-5 years of strong coding experience in Python, C#, Java.
  • Must be able to quickly shift priorities due to business and/or customer requests.
  • Ability to work in a geographically dispersed, collaborative team environment.
  • Master's degree in related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • GIS experience with raster data (imagery, basemaps, mosaics).
  • Experience with GeoServer and OGC specifications.
  • Experience with GIS technology in an operational environment via ESRI ArcPro, ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap and Catalog), or QGIS.
  • Familiarity with query languages (SQL, PL/SQL) and databases (relational, NoSQL, and graph databases e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Neo4j).
  • Experience with utilizing automated testing and linting (PyTest, Black, Flake8, Radon, iSort).
  • Experience with service-oriented and microservice architectures.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) and CI/CD tools (e.g., GitLab).
  • Familiarity with AWS Kubernetes, Jenkins, EC2s, Lambdas, EC2, S3, RDS, ELB, Kubernetes.
  • The ability to multi-task and function in a high stress environment.
