The Team The Digital Identity Platform collects, protects, and distributes the critical data that enables SoFi to recognize and support its members as they move through every product and feature. Digital Identity is the virtual representation of a person’s physical identity — the digital attributes essential for customer identification, relationship & entitlement and authorization (granting access to resources). If you are passionate about working on the platform that every SoFi product depends on to know its customers, this is the team. Our team’s tech stack is Java/Kotlin, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, ArgoCD, Datadog, Snowflake. For AI based development we use Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf etc. The Role You focus on software features and systems, anchored on a team but interacting across teams to deliver outcomes. Problems you tackle are broadly defined — you identify the specific solutions. You think 6–12 months ahead about system evolution and set standards for your team’s engineering practices. In SoFi’s AI-native environment, you produce structured critiques of AI-generated architecture, identify distributed systems failure modes that AI consistently misses, and define how your team uses AI tools effectively. When needed, you lead cross-functionally to deliver business outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • 6-10 years of professional software development experience
  • Advanced expertise in writing code, consistently demonstrating best practices with clear and exemplary usage of their team’s software languages
  • Advanced expertise in how team components contribute to broader system architecture; recognizes and makes trade-offs in component interactions
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and critique architectural flaws in AI-generated code — race conditions, data consistency issues, incorrect failure handling
  • Experience with 6–12 month strategic thinking; setting team priorities and driving operational excellence improvements
  • Domain knowledge in their product area, informing decision making and design
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functionally and represent the team in technical discussions
  • Strong focus on operational excellence with a track record of identifying systemic improvement patterns

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with front-end development using Typescript and frameworks like ReactJs/AngularJs, NodeJs will be nice to have.

Responsibilities

  • Design software that addresses both current and future business needs; promote efficient development, clarity, reusability, testability, and reliability
  • Set coding standards and best practices for the team, including standards for AI-assisted development — when to use AI, how to verify, what to own
  • Produce structured critiques of AI-generated distributed system designs, identifying race conditions, incorrect consistency models, silent data loss, and improper failure handling
  • Participate in group-level strategic planning and resource prioritization, representing the team’s perspective; align team projects with group direction
  • Lead team design reviews; teammates recognize that your input improves results and seek your feedback
  • Simplify the team’s systems, avoiding unnecessary complexity; enable easy integrations across teams; optimize for long-term impact
  • Frame and navigate trade-offs in technology choices with a pragmatic, value-focused perspective on when to adopt vs. invent
  • Drive operational excellence: automate and streamline build, deployment, testing, and maintenance; identify patterns in bugs and incidents to propose systemic improvements
  • Mentor teammates proactively to grow their skillsets and impact, providing meaningful feedback from a well-calibrated perspective
