GlossGeniusSan Francisco, CA

About The Position

GlossGenius has been empowering independent entrepreneurs in the beauty and wellness space to pursue their dreams and successfully grow their businesses. As we continue to scale, we're strengthening our App Platform team. This team is foundational to everything we build — from enabling developer velocity to ensuring web reliability and performance at scale. As a Staff Frontend Engineer on the App Platform team, you will play a leading technical role in shaping our web platform at GlossGenius. We are not owners of individual features but enablers of scalable, consistent, and high-quality engineering. Our scope includes shared UI frameworks, component libraries, tooling, and release infrastructure — we are building the platform that product teams rely on to deliver value. We also believe AI is a force multiplier for great engineering, and we're actively embedding AI-powered tooling and practices into how we build and ship software. Our mission is to provide the foundation that helps every team move faster, build better, and scale with confidence. You must be commutable to our NYC or SF headquarters. We default to being in-office 3-4 days per week with required attendance on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional frontend engineering experience, with a strong focus on web, and a track record of leading high-impact technical work.
  • Deep expertise in React and JavaScript, with a strong command of modern frontend architecture and patterns.
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript, CSS-in-JS, and responsive/adaptive design principles.
  • Proven experience building and evolving component libraries, design systems, or shared UI frameworks at scale.
  • Deep understanding of web performance — bundle optimization, lazy loading, rendering strategies, Core Web Vitals, and profiling.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Cursor, GitHub Copilot) and a genuine enthusiasm for using AI to accelerate engineering productivity.
  • A forward-thinking mindset around AI — someone who actively explores how emerging tools and workflows can improve how teams build software, and can help shape those practices org-wide.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy, driving projects from ambiguous problem statements to polished, production-ready solutions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence technical direction and align stakeholders across teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with React Native or cross-platform mobile development is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and drive the development of scalable, reusable frontend components and shared libraries that power GlossGenius web applications.
  • Define and lead the long-term technical direction of our web platform, including framework decisions, architecture patterns, and developer experience.
  • Partner closely with product managers, designers, and engineering teams across the org to align on and deliver a cohesive, high-quality web experience.
  • Set the standard for frontend best practices — including code quality, accessibility, performance optimization, and design system consistency — and actively raise the bar across engineering.
  • Own and drive improvements to frontend tooling, build pipelines, and developer workflows to increase velocity across engineering teams.
  • Champion the adoption of AI-powered development tools (e.g. Cursor, GitHub Copilot) and help establish best practices for how engineers at GlossGenius leverage AI effectively and responsibly.
  • Serve as a technical leader and go-to resource in code reviews, architectural decisions, and cross-functional technical discussions.
  • Identify systemic problems and proactively propose and implement solutions that have broad impact across multiple teams.
  • Contribute to mobile efforts where applicable, lending your frontend expertise to ensure consistency across web and mobile surfaces.
