About The Position

Staff Software Engineer – Global Marketplace Engineering What you’ll do… We are seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to join the Global Marketplace Engineering team. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you will design, build, and scale highly available systems that power Walmart’s global marketplace. You will partner closely with architects, product leaders, and engineering teams to deliver robust, cloud-native solutions at massive scale. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future employer-sponsored immigration support. Walmart does not provide visa sponsorship for this role. Key Responsibilities Provide technical leadership through hands-on development, code reviews, and design discussions. Mentor engineers and promote best practices in software design, coding standards, and system architecture. Design and evolve scalable, secure, and high-performance backend and data systems. Drive architecture decisions aligned with business goals, scalability, and long-term technical vision. Champion software craftsmanship through TDD/BDD, CI/CD, and operational excellence. Lead technical discovery and architecture for major initiatives and platform capabilities. Collaborate with Product, UX, QA, SRE, and DevOps teams to deliver end-to-end solutions. Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Stay current with emerging technologies and evaluate tools that improve system reliability and developer productivity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or related field.
  • 10–14 years of experience designing and developing scalable, distributed systems in product-based environments.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices.
  • Strong experience in distributed systems, system design, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Expertise with RDBMS and NoSQL databases, Kafka, and big data technologies such as Spark.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and microservices platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD, Agile, and DevOps practices (Git, Maven, Jenkins).
  • Experience with performance testing, high availability, resiliency, disaster recovery, and security architecture.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Proven ability to balance long-term architecture with near-term delivery.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence without direct authority.
  • A collaborative mindset with energy to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area
