About The Position

The Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) Stand Together Coordinator works full-time, under the primary direction of the Senior Manager, Community Wellness Team, within the Office of Behavioral Health, Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS), to ensure that OBH programs, activities, and initiatives engage stakeholders to the broadest extent possible, promote recovery and wellness principles, and reduce stigma toward youth and adults with behavioral health disorders. The incumbent is responsible for administrative and operational duties with Stand Together providing education, training, and technical assistance to middle and high school students participating in the Stand Together antistigma initiative. In addition, the incumbent develops and participates in projects and activities, internal and external, which promote community inclusion for youth and adults with behavioral health disorders. The Incumbent contributes a peer voice on policy and development of program office services. The Stand Together Coordinator must have (1) familiarity with and a working knowledge of the behavioral health system from the service user perspective and (2) the ability to positively and appropriately self-disclose regarding that experience. This is a lead role, and as such, the incumbent is expected to promote and represent the interests of AC-DHS and the program office in key projects and initiatives on a local, regional, and/or national level when given the opportunity.

Requirements

  • Ability to work effectively with people who have lived experience with mental illness.
  • Proficient typist, working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to write effectively and clearly and the ability to speak in front of a group of people.
  • Navigate in the community on related work assignments.
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently to initiate tasks that need completed for the Community Wellness Team and/or the Office of Behavioral Health.
  • Knowledgeable about social media platforms.
  • Willingness to learn how to maintain Stand Together website.
  • Lived experience with mental health and/or drug and alcohol recovery is required.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, plus a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a social services profession; familiarity with the behavioral health system from the service user perspective is required. In addition, incumbent must have (1) familiarity with the behavioral health system from the service user perspective and (2) the ability to positively and appropriately self-disclose regarding that experience. Prior training experience required.
  • Act 33 and 34 clearances.
  • FBI Criminal Background Check
  • Reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge about recovery and resilience principles and practices preferred.
  • Preferably has experience using Qualtrics and other data collecting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Provides coordination of Stand Together program as the primary contact with school advisors.
  • Trains OBH Stand Together training staff.
  • Develops materials and organizes orientation training for Stand Together advisors.
  • Provides training for middle and high school students participating in Stand Together.
  • Creates, approves, and uploads content to the Stand Together website and to all social media platforms.
  • Coordinates with website administrator to make design changes to the Stand Together website and has a basic understanding of WordPress web platform.
  • Recruits new schools to Stand Together initiative.
  • Organizes Stand Together Recognition Event.
  • Coordinates with other OBH Community Support & Youth Training Specialists to schedule Stand Together school trainings.
  • Coordinates with the Office of Equity and Engagement in the branding and design of marketing and program materials.
  • Recruits, interviews, and schedules Stand Together Training Assistants (TA’s) to assist the Stand Together trainers.
  • Updates curriculum in collaboration with management when needed.
  • Creates/updates data tracking tools (surveys) and analyzes results to gain insight and make informed decisions on program changes. Preferably has experience using Qualtrics and other data collecting tools.
  • Creates all school project funds check request forms to be signed by Senior Manager and then sent to DCM financial department.
  • Keeps organized financial records and coordinates with DCM financial department.

  • Works with OBH contracted providers to develop initiatives to promote community inclusion for youth and adults with behavioral health disorders.
  • Conducts presentations to groups addressing stigma toward adults and youth and community inclusion.
  • Collects data as appropriate for anti-stigma and inclusion activities.
  • Participates in local, regional, and statewide committees, workgroups and advisory committees as assigned.
  • Assists in developing peer support activities for people with lived experience with mental disorders who are working in the mental health field.
  • Obtains Mental Health First Aid training certification.
  • Conducts at least three (3) Mental Health First Aid trainings each year.
  • From time to time the employee will be required to perform additional tasks and duties as required by the employer.
