About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot the hospitals mechanical, electrical, and utility systems to ensure safe, reliable, and continuous operation of the facility. This position supports patient care and regulatory compliance by maintaining critical infrastructure systems in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and hospital policies. This position is the full performance level of work involving the operation and maintenance of all plant machinery including plant machinery rated in excess of 500 horsepower. This position may provide technical guidance and review work completed by other maintenance staff but does not supervise other positions. This position receives general supervision from a Maintenance Chief, Maintenance Supervisor or other designated authority. This position is assigned to day, evening, night or rotating shifts and may be required to work weekends and holidays. Work involves the lifting of heavy mechanical equipment and apparatus and may be performed in areas of extreme heat and cold. This position is evaluated by using the classification job evaluation methodology. This method compares the position’s assigned duties and responsibilities to the job criteria defined in the Nature of Work and Examples of Work sections of the class specifications.

Requirements

  • Completion of the Eighth grade.
  • Two years of experience in a boiler room facility tending a boiler.
  • Must possess and maintain a current license as a Stationary Engineer, First Grade from the State Board of Stationary Engineers.
  • Some positions in this classification are assigned duties which will require the candidates to be examined by a Physician. After an offer of employment, candidates for such positions will be given a medical examination to certify the ability to perform the essential job functions.
  • Employees in this classification are subject to random substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulation 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
