Overview We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Stationary Engineer with a strong background in HVAC operations, maintenance and repair to join our team. The Stationary Engineer operates and maintains mechanical and electrical systems and equipment used by the Santa Clara Convention Center including inspection, troubleshooting and repair/replacement as necessary and for the setup of equipment used by clients. This role pays an hourly rate of $67.23 (per CBA). Benefits as per the union agreement. This position will remain open until May 1, 2026.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work various workdays and hours to meet business needs including early/late hours, long days, weekends and holidays. In addition, must be able to come in to work if called for emergency at any time.
  • Must be reliable and punctual.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to speak effectively to customers, clients, and employees of the organization including management, and public groups.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Responsibilities

  • Operates, inspects, conducts preventive maintenance routines and repairs as needed (subject to limitations created by maintenance agreements or which require specialized skills, equipment, or training) all equipment owned by or part of the convention center including boilers, centrifugal compressors, air compressors, natural gas systems, water supply, and drainage systems, chemical treatment systems for chilled, heating and condenser water, electric motors and drive components for various devices, building structural components and motor or engine powered equipment.
  • Maintains all door components including lock assemblies, hinges, door closing and holding open devices.
  • Set up and remove electrical power equipment such as power boxes, 60-amp extensions, 30-amp extensions, 20-amp stringers, single and 3 phase connections, 208-volt connections, 60-amp service connectors to Cam-Lok, 480volt Posi-lok, extension cords for clients and catering except that which is contracted to others by client.
  • Maintain building, performing minor and routine sheetrock replacement and painting, pluming, carpentry, electrical wiring, and other related maintenance activities.
  • Maintain HVAC systems including but not limited to pneumatics, electro-pneumatics, communications, motors, drive belts, bearings, drive shafts, actuators, diaphragms, valves, shutters, and air filters replacement.
  • Notify management concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
  • Assist A/V Technicians as required.
  • Maintain an individual daily worklog for all work performed.
  • Document all work performed on mechanical equipment.
