About The Position

The Steam Turbine Structures Principal Engineer will be responsible for the total product lifecycle (“cradle to grave”) technical ownership and quality of steam turbine structures. The individual will play a key role in the mentoring and technical development of the organization across three global locations (Baden, GEIQ, and Schenectady). The role contributes to the overall strategy and successful resolution of complex issues within steam turbine structures across NPI, projects, field issues, and other strategic initiatives. Components covered include shells, pedestals/standards, LP casings, bearings, valves and related structural components across the portfolio of steam turbine products and services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering, or related discipline
  • Significant experience in Steam Turbine technology
  • Excellent ONE TEAM collaboration with the ability to interface with and influence multiple stakeholders and customers at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions, manage conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong customer orientation with demonstrated ability to deliver successful solutions

Responsibilities

  • Embrace and demonstrate (lead by example) GE Vernova Way within the framework of S-Q-D-C.
  • EHS/Safety skillset in support of design, manufacturing, and field activities, i.e. lifting and transportation.
  • Grow a collaborative mindset to promote a trusting, safe, and inclusive ONE TEAM culture across teams.
  • LEAN mindset – support initiatives to continuously improve the quality and productivity of team to meet customer/business needs, including RCA’s and product cost out.
  • Mentor global team of Steam Turbine Engineers, enabling their technical growth.
  • Promote technical excellence through design/technical reviews. Ensure feedback and lessons learned from the field are incorporated into current (requisitions), Design Practices, and future (NPI) designs. Provide guidance to the design team regarding the preparation of static structures NPI milestone design activities including both analysis and documentation.
  • Follow NPI Tollgate Process from Conceptual Design thru field validation for responsible component designs across the full spectrum of Steam Turbine configurations.
  • Review and lead appropriate engineering analysis to ensure robust designs meet all required CTQs / DP requirements. Work closely with the chief engineer to modernize static structural design practices where needed.
  • Demonstrated excellence applying fundamentals of Mechanical Design, including material properties, statics, strength of materials, fluid dynamics, lifing methods related to fatigue (LCF & HCF) and creep.
  • Finite Element Analysis (ANYSIS) capability.
  • Provide support and technical direction with high integrity and oversight of processes protecting Intellectual Property, Export Controlled and Strategic Technology. Awareness and confidence to STOP WORK.
  • Partner with Product Line, Application Engineering, Product Service, and SILs to drive platform strategy for product structuring and technology enhancements.
