Camp Whispering Cedars, a year-round camp with more than 130 bedspaces situated on approximately 90 acres in South Dallas and home to our STEM Center of Excellence, serves as a hub for innovation and outdoor learning. The STEM Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering all aspects of STEM and other camp programs, including family and community events, field trips, weekend camping, and summer experiences. This role leads the development of comprehensive, hands-on STEM education initiatives designed to inspire curiosity and confidence in participants while promoting exploration of STEM career pathways. Working collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners, the STEM Program Coordinator ensures a high-quality, mission-driven program experience. This position reports to the Camp Director and is part of a team stewarding four camp properties dedicated to building girls of courage, confidence, and character through community life outdoors.

Requirements

  • 2+ years work or volunteer experience in STEM, education, or youth programming
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer proficiency, especially in Microsoft Office programs
  • Demonstrate and promote a climate of courtesy, respect, and professionalism to coworkers, the volunteers served by this council, and others with whom this job puts them in contact
  • Upon employment, employee must register as an adult member in the Girl Scout organization and subscribe to the tenets of the Girl Scout Promise and Law
  • Attendance is an essential job requirement defined as having regular, consistent, reliable, punctual, and predictable attendance including the ability to work regular hours and shifts, before and after hours, and on weekends, when required
  • Must complete and pass a criminal background check

Responsibilities

  • STEM Program Development & Instruction: Design, deliver, and continuously improve engaging STEM programs aligned with Girl Scout curriculum, educational standards, and emerging STEM trends. Write and adapt curricula to support diverse learning styles.
  • Camper Engagement & Safety: Create an inclusive, supportive environment that encourages curiosity and collaboration while ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.
  • Camp Leadership: Lead on-site and off-site summer camp programming that builds STEM confidence, outdoor skills, and teamwork, including collaborating with community partners to enhance experiences.
  • Field Trip Coordination: Coordinate and facilitate on-site field trips aligned with TEKS and program goals; serve as liaison with schools, manage logistics and materials, lead hands-on instruction, and ensure a smooth, safe experience.
  • Team & Partner Collaboration: Work closely with camp staff and external partners to plan, deliver, and evaluate programs. Communicate effectively to ensure cohesive, high-quality participant experiences.
  • Administrative, Grant, & Resource Management: Support scheduling and record-keeping, assist with grant data and reporting requirements, and maintain equipment, materials, and inventory.
  • This position generally works Wednesdays through Sundays during fall, winter, and spring.
  • This position works a variable schedule in summer to meet the needs of summer camp.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule is essential.
  • Be active outdoors in variable weather conditions all year, including walking around camp on uneven terrain.
  • Be welcoming, respectful, enthusiastic, and professional with colleagues, members of all ages, and the public at all times.
  • Must be able to travel within established geographic areas and council service centers, as necessary.
  • Must have reliable transportation, hold a valid driver’s license, and meet GSNETX driving record and automobile insurance requirements.
