Processes all reusable medical/surgical items for issue according to departmental and infection control policy and procedures. Sterilizes instruments and equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations and infection control guidelines. Completes thorough cleaning of surgical instruments and equipment. Processes patient care equipment for re-issue. Inspects patient care equipment for cleanliness and proper functioning. Inspects surgical instruments and equipment for proper functioning. Performs biological indicator tests on the Steam sterilizers and the Sterrad Unit and Steris One. Assembles instrument sets according to department protocols. Packages instrument sets for sterilizing. Distributes sterile equipment to appropriate areas. Communicates and notifies all personnel for the recall of sterilized items. Restocks surgery unit with medical/surgical supplies. Maintains established supply levels in the Central Processing area. Revises department policies to meet the department standards. Observes environmental standards for the Central Processing area. Lifts, carries and/or pushes/pull various items (bags, boxes, carts, etc.) while utilizing proper technique.
