About The Position

Hachette Book Group’s summer internship program offers individuals an opportunity to learn about the publishing industry and explore an area of interest. To learn more about the company, visit our career site: https://www.hachettebookgroup.com/about/careers/ The Storey Publishing design team is seeking a remote summer intern who’s eager to learn about the publishing industry. This intern will work closely with the design team over the summer to learn the ins and outs of the collaboration between the design and editorial process in publishing. Requirements

  • Graphic Design major preferred
  • Basic knowledge of layouts, typography, line composition, color, and other graphic design fundamentals
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Strong creative and analytical skills and a love of typography
  • Compelling portfolio of graphic design work
  • Enthusiasm for books and topics Storey publishes

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with and assist the Art Directors on all phases of the book from the creative concepting to design layouts to production
  • Tasks include, but are not limited to designing back covers, designing icons and spot illustrations for books, making book corrections, preparing book design comps, and prepping for photoshoots or illustration plans
  • Attend weekly progress meetings with design and editorial
