About The Position

Lead Strategy and Risk Consultant Location: Columbus, OH office (Hybrid – 3 days/week in office) We prefer to hire at the Lead level but are open to hire at the Senior level also. (years of experience and salary band listed is for Lead level). This is a newly created role where the person will be lead subject matter expert on how we validate enterprise-wide savings across transformation efforts. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, proactive and strong at managing relationships and getting results. Job Summary The Strategy and Risk Integration team helps NiSource make decisions under uncertainty by translating complex, ambiguous challenges into clear, actionable insights. The team leverages integrated strategy, risk, and analytical capabilities to deliver comprehensive analyses and practical solutions across the enterprise. This position actively participates on cross‑functional project teams, providing internal and external research, analysis, and strategic insight. This role delivers hands‑on analysis, consultation, and collaboration across functions to support the development, communication, and execution of strategies, programs, and plans that address current and emerging enterprise challenges. The individual is expected to take initiative, operate effectively in ambiguity, drive work forward proactively, and support projects through evaluation, recommendation, and closure related to strategy and enterprise risk. The role maintains an external perspective on industry trends and best practices to inform decision‑making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience using Excel to analyze data.
  • Experience applying economic, statistic, and econometric concepts/ methods.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated planning, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Advanced skillset in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), experience with VBA and building business tools.
  • Advanced quantitative analysis and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to break down and analyze large, complex problems, recognize strategic implications, and implement action plans.
  • Demonstrated experience leading people, projects, or initiatives.
  • Demonstrated time management skills, including the ability to prioritize and advance multiple work streams concurrently.
  • Self-starter who takes action to identify, analyze and improve existing processes within organization.
  • Six Sigma background a plus.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in working within departmental and corporate guidelines, including the ability to handle highly confidential information.
  • Strong collaboration and communications skills, ability to engage with others.
  • Occasional travel (5-10%) might be required

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree (MBA, MPA, PhD) preferred.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience (e.g., corporate strategy, accounting, financial planning, risk, legal, insurance, etc.).
  • Previous electric or gas utility experience.
  • Experience with a variety of problem solving tools and techniques (e.g. failure mode, stochastic modeling, cause analysis, fault tree, quantitative analysis, Monte Carlo simulations, etc.).
  • ARM - Certification In Risk Management other analytical-related certification, and/or professional designations commensurate with the profession (i.e. AIC, etc.) is a plus.
  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)
  • Predictive analytics (machine learning is a plus)
  • Timeseries analysis
  • Risk modeling (FAIR methodology is a plus)
  • Statistical analysis programs

Responsibilities

  • Performs industry, competitor, and customer analyses; monitors and evaluates the impact of trends; identifies key opportunities and barriers; gathers and synthesizes quantitative and qualitative data to inform strategic decisions.
  • Tracks, validates, and reports on initiative performance and provides insights into risks/upsides
  • Builds and maintains Excel‑based models to analyze data, evaluate financial and strategic tradeoffs, and support decision‑making under uncertainty.
  • Leverages enterprise risk information to research and assess primary and secondary risk impacts.
  • Utilizes risk management tools such as risk registers, dashboards, tracking metrics, and mitigation monitoring to support enterprise risk integration.
  • Identifies and frames issues, problems, and opportunities; compares and integrates data from multiple sources; draws sound conclusions; develops practical solutions; and takes timely, proactive action aligned with available facts, constraints, and potential consequences.
  • Assists in the development, refinement, and updating of materials for presentation to executive audiences.
  • Compiles, organizes, and formats data to support internal and external reporting, including both quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Researches reporting considerations, supports adoption of new reporting requirements, develops business cases, and builds supporting financial models.
  • Leads assigned project tasks under the direction of Strategy leadership team, proactively managing deliverables, timelines, and resource coordination while escalating risks and issues as appropriate.
