About The Position

The Strategy & Impact Intern supports Georgia Aquarium’s commitment to protecting and understanding Atlanta’s water systems. This role helps advance Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)—an initiative that connects scientific insight, community engagement, and environmental stewardship to strengthen water quality across the Atlanta watershed. The intern will assist with water quality monitoring, help maintain and organize community-submitted data, and support ongoing development and implementation of CSR platform projects. This position is ideal for students interested in environmental science, conservation, or community-based science and education.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Public Health, Conservation, or a related field.
  • Interest in water quality, aquatic systems, or environmental stewardship.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially when handling data.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions (training and support provided).
  • Good communication skills and willingness to engage with community volunteers, visitors, and partners.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Water Quality Testing & Data Management Assist the Environmental Health team with water sampling in streams, rivers, and urban waterways across the Atlanta watershed.
  • Enter, review, and quality-check community-submitted water quality data uploaded to the CSR portal.
  • Assist with generating simple summaries, visuals, or insights for internal stakeholders and public reporting.
  • Community Engagement & Education Support Participate in volunteer trainings, community cleanups, and water monitoring events.
  • Help explain basic water science concepts, the role of the Atlanta watershed, and the importance of stewardship to visitors and community members.
  • Assist with research on best practices in urban water stewardship, citizen science, and environmental education.
  • Contribute creative ideas to strengthen community participation, data collection, and program accessibility.
