About The Position

Streetcar Tech I is responsible for performing maintenance, repair, and inspection tasks on streetcars and light rail vehicles to ensure they operate safely and efficiently. This position requires a entry level technician who, under the supervision, can diagnose mechanical issues, perform preventive maintenance, and repair or replace parts and systems as necessary. This position performs all required preventive maintenance inspections, check defect reports and creates corresponding work requests, prepares and maintains vehicle and facility inspection records and reports and work orders, make routine mechanical repairs and adjustments, such as but not limited to defective lights, body damage, interior damage, and operating defects. The Streetcar Tech I plays a key role in minimizing downtime and ensuring the safety and reliability of the streetcar fleet and systems.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or General Equivalent Degree.
  • Experience in maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting, and overhauling electrical and mechanical systems
  • Experience in the diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic propulsion systems
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical principles, repair methods, standards, and practices
  • Knowledge of test equipment and tools needed in the repair, maintenance, and installation of mechanical, electronic, and electrical systems and equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of electronics including, digital and analog systems
  • Knowledge of general shop safety procedures
  • Skill communicating orally and in writing.
  • Skill in performing maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and safety/preventive maintenance inspections
  • Skill in implementing preventive maintenance and safety inspection procedures
  • Skill in using test and shop equipment and tools, parts, and supply manuals
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of business
  • Skill in the use of electronic schematics, portable test units, and diagnostic software
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply technical information from service manuals
  • Ability to read and follow verbal and written directions; ability to read, understand, and apply technical information found in repair manuals, service change bulletins, and applicable technical documents, including parts and supply manuals
  • Ability to operate a computer and familiarity with MS Office products and maintenance information systems
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Streetcar Yard Operation certification
  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • No criminal record within the last 7 years
  • Less than 2 points on your driving record, and no infractions in the past 12 months
  • Must have a valid drivers license
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
  • Must be 20 years of age or older
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid DOT medical card post job offer

Nice To Haves

  • Streetcar elated experience, Programmable Logic Controller system experience, training, and certifications preferred.
  • Experience in the diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of Streetcar braking system, hydraulic units, and high voltage systems preferred.
  • Experience in the diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of fare electronic destination signage, PA systems, electronic displays, and other electronic systems typically found in transit vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Perform supervised diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic propulsion systems.
  • Perform supervised diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic destination PA systems, electronic displays, and other electronic systems typically found in transit vehicles
  • Perform thorough preventative maintenance inspections in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines; make routine mechanical repairs and adjustments
  • Troubleshoot systems and locate causes of electrical, electronic, and mechanical problems.
  • Perform supervised diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of track, switch, TWC, and TPSS
  • Use test equipment, typical shop tools, torque wrenches, multimeter, power supplies, oscilloscope, and portable test units.
  • Check and inspect the condition of Streetcars; report and repair defects such as defective lights, body damage, interior damage, and operating defects.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of shop area and work vehicles.
  • Tag and document defect parts.
  • Perform vehicle recovery duties including: towing/pushing disabled vehicles, assisting with re-railing of cars, as necessary, moving cars around the yard and shop.
  • Clean exterior of streetcars by handwashing and steam cleaning, using a variety of approved solvents, soaps, cleaning chemicals, and tools.
  • Check and replenish consumables such as wiper fluid and sand.
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.
