A Day in the Life of a Structural Bridge Engineer at Hanson Here’s a snapshot of what you would do in this role: Lead or assist in leading bridge projects within Hanson’s Infrastructure Market, including highway and railway bridges, and potentially other structural projects across various markets. Perform complex engineering calculations and utilize software tools for analysis and design. Collaborate with senior technical staff and multidisciplinary teams on significant national projects. Conduct structural analysis and design, prepare specifications, details, and construction plans. Assign duties, manage project budgets, and mentor entry- and mid-level staff and technicians. Prepare and review calculations, quantity take-offs, and cost estimates. Support project pursuits and proposal development. Assist in developing project scopes and fee proposals. Other duties as assigned. What We’re Looking For We feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role:

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
  • Experience with steel girder, prestressed concrete, and earth retaining structure design.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software such as Risa, Midas, LARSA, Leap Bridge Concrete, L-Pile, and AASHTOWare.
  • Ability to work independently and lead others.
  • Task management and client service focus.
  • Experience supporting proposal development.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Interest in varied assignments and continuous learning.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with structural coursework required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration required.
  • Structural Engineer (SE) registration or ability to obtain one required
  • Experience with DOT bridge design practices and standards.
  • Experience managing project staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with AREMA design code and railway bridge design
  • Design-Build project experience
  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering
  • SE registration preferred.
  • Approved Team Leader by IDOT for NBIS Bridge Inspections
  • Project experience with IDOT, Illinois Tollway, FDOT, and TxDOT
  • Experience with complex bridge types and components.
  • Participation in technical societies.
