We have an exciting opportunity for a Structural Dynamics Engineer to join our JETS II contract team at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. If selected you will:

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 1 year of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Experience with desktop software applications, MS Office is required
  • Experience in finite element model manipulation and coupled loads analysis
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, and/or C/C++
  • US Citizenship and the ability to pass a comprehensive security background investigation is required.

Nice To Haves

  • BS or MS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or C/C++
  • Experience using MSC NASTRAN with FEMAP as a pre/post-processor
  • Experience or relative coursework in Systems Engineering
  • Experience or Proficiency with Component Mode Synthesis and Craig Bampton model reductions

Responsibilities

  • Perform finite element model checks, dynamic model reductions, coupled loads analysis, and interpret results
  • Perform dynamic analyses using commercial and in-house codes, write new simulation scripts and code, typically with Python, as needed
  • Perform vibroacoustic analysis on finite element models in preparation for acoustic and random vibration tests
  • Perform modal analysis on finite element models in preparation for modal tests
  • Identify critical modes for a component or integrated system
  • Review and process modal and structural data (analytical and test)
  • Develop and/or review test plans and procedures, documenting test results
  • Perform signal processing on analytical and/or test data
  • Perform model correlation by adjusting analytical models based on test data to better align the model with actual hardware
  • Perform other duties as required
