About The Position

The Structural Project Engineer I will perform advanced level engineering duties associated with the design of structural engineering projects. They will also perform basic project management functions. This position supports all aspects of design projects for roadways, utilities, transit, etc.; prepares schematics & models; performs analysis & engineering calculations; develops plans, specifications & estimates; prepares technical engineering reports; assists with or may lead development of scope and fee proposals; assists with or may lead monitoring of project budget and staff assignments; may perform or lead QAQC of project deliverables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Structural Engineer (SE) License Required.
  • Typically 8+ years of experience required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Spatial and design skills to visualize projects in 2D and 3D.
  • Advanced engineering skills to compliment position goal.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Bluebeam, and CADD software, specifically the Bentley Suite of products including Open Roads Designer, ProjectWise and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Basic experience with project scheduling.
  • Advanced background in and knowledge of local agency standards preferred.
  • Must be able to sit, walk, stand, reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel, climb, or balance, talk, or hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects tools or control.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on occasion.
  • Travel is required; must possess a valid license.
  • Complete state-required competency.
  • Attend job-related seminars and workshops.

Responsibilities

  • Acquires advanced knowledge and skills through mentored experience.
  • Evaluates and applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broader assignment.
  • Performs work assignments of advanced complexity. Contributes to specific objectives and outcomes.
  • Receives minimal instruction on specific objectives and direction on possible solutions to unconventional or complex problems.
  • Works as part of a team and coordinates work with others.
  • Establishes project work priorities and plans work appropriately.
  • Typically receives minimal supervision on some aspects of assignments and a general review of all aspects of work but is expected to work independently.
  • Possesses proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Interacts with both internal project team members as well as direct communication with clients or other stakeholders.
  • Adheres to project deadlines and keeps the task manager or client informed of any difficulties encountered on assignments.
  • Performs review of own work before submitting to the next review level. May have primary responsibility for review of project work by other staff.
  • Participates in and may oversee development of detailed construction plans for roadway, utility, electrical, and transportation projects using Open Roads Designer and/or AutoDesk software.
  • Perform bridge or other structural inspections, documents findings, and compile inspection reports. May perform these duties as Team Leader.
  • Perform structural calculations and CADD duties with limited guidance and support.
  • Coordinate with project staff, other disciplines, clients and consultants to ensure accuracy and quality standards are met. May act as project or discipline lead.
  • Review, evaluate, verify accuracy and viability of designs, data, reports, and other documents before submitting them to the next review level while adhering to project deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation, including project schedules, budget and scope.
  • Helps coordinate and document completion of quality control reviews throughout the lifecycle of a project.
  • Manages tasks and/or projects of basic to moderate complexity.
  • May act as main point of contact with client or with project lead (on projects led by other disciplines).
