About The Position

Manages, coordinates, and performs special assignments in the Design Resource & Technology Group of the Structures Design Office, which produces and maintains the Structures Design Office’s software programs and serves as a technical resource for solving complex structural problems Assists in the development of revisions/updates/additions to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Manuals and other specifications and policies. Reviews technical changes to the American Association of State and Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO). Performs research of existing documentation to develop design policies and specifications. Identifies research needs related to structures. Manages and/or reviews technical research projects on a state and national level. Manages assigned consultant’s Task Work Orders (TWOs). Coordinates and administers the technical review of Approved Products List (APL) applications.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of structural design software, MicroStation, and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work independently
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Skills in structural design and analysis of prestressed concrete, reinforced concrete, and steel members
  • Skills in the interpretation and application of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) Bridge Design Specifications
  • Skills in the use and preparation of the Florida Department of Transportation's (FDOT) policies and procedures in the areas of Structures Design, Roadway Design, and Construction Specifications
  • Skills in the preparation and review of the structural drawings
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and implement Florida Department of Transportation Structural Standards Plans
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in accordance with Florida Statute 471
  • One year of post-registration experience
