About The Position

The Department of Event Management, Dining, and Hospitality is the largest student employer at Illinois State University. We provide the campus community and guests with high-quality and professional event services and dining experiences in a variety of settings dedicated to enhancing the campus experience in a diverse community. The Assistant Stage Manager maintains daily operations for the Production Services division within Event Management, Dining, and Hospitality. This includes the setup and teardown of events and event-related equipment, including but not limited to lighting, sound, video, streaming equipment, and other staging equipment. This position also frequently interfaces and works with clients to meet all production service needs for events. Other duties include training and supervising stagehands, performing maintenance and cleaning tasks, and assisting full-time staff members as needed. The Assistant Stage Manager is also expected to perform other duties as assigned and contribute to continual improvement initiatives throughout the department. Requirements

  • Applicant must have worked for Production Services for 1 semester.
  • Be available to work nights and weekends.
  • Be proficient with time management.
  • Be proficient with the setup, teardown, and operation of equipment commonly used within Production Services.
  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have a strong sense of self-motivation, able to perform duties without supervision.
  • Have a strong aptitude for customer service.
  • Be committed to working potentially long work hours as necessary and filling open shifts if available.
  • Be committed to teamwork, learning new skills, sharing known skills, and contributing to the continual improvement of the department.
  • Lift a minimum of 40 lbs.
  • Climb several flights of stairs and tall ladders.
  • Effectively communicate on a daily basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Have previous experience training, supervising, and leading others.
  • Have experience operating scissor lifts, bucket lifts, or similar machinery.
  • Be able to work in extreme temperatures.
  • Be able to work at heights over 70 feet.
