About The Position

ISO New England is the independent system operator responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable flow of electricity in our region and planning for the future of the electric grid. We are at the forefront of New England’s ongoing transition to clean energy. The internship title is Resource Adequacy Analyst in the Advanced Technology Solutions department. This position offers a PhD-level student the opportunity to dive into power system analysis, testing and benchmarking in-house tools, analyzing results, and providing recommendations to improve performance. Interns will gain hands-on experience with real-world energy data, sharpen analytical and programming skills, and make a tangible impact on keeping the grid reliable.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of resource adequacy assessment for power systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or other analytical tools).
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical findings.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred majors: Operations Research, Power System Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct benchmarking of ISO’s in-house resource adequacy assessment tool with the production RAA tool.
  • Perform detailed testing, analyze, and identify gaps or improvement areas.
  • Provide data-driven recommendations for improving the in-house tools' performance and reliability.
  • Gain exposure to power system modeling and data analytics.
  • Collaborate with engineers in ATS and Planning to align results with business needs.
