About The Position

At the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, we deliver reliable water to a region with 19 million people—and to accomplish this, we rely on a team of Talented Employees: innovators, problem-solvers, and collaborators who make it all possible. This is a Bay-Delta Year-Round Student Intern position receiving training and mentoring while performing assignments that offer practical experience and exposure to MWD’s organizational structure. Specifically, this position will support Metropolitan’s scientists in their efforts to advance scientific, policy, and regulatory understanding in the Bay-Delta. Areas of scientific focus may include fish ecology and aquaculture, water resource modeling, habitat restoration, and decision analysis. Metropolitan’s scientists work collaboratively with federal, state, and local agencies and academic and non-governmental organizations on these efforts. The student intern will research pertinent topics related to water supply, Board activities, regulations and legislation, assist with data management, analysis, and reporting, and drafting accurate, concise, and informative briefing materials, including basic maps and field surveys, PowerPoint presentations, and other outreach and communications resources. This Student Intern position will be located at Metropolitan’s office in downtown Sacramento, CA.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in an accredited four-year college or university carrying a minimum of 12 semester units or 8 quarter units with junior or senior standing in a related major and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or current enrollment in an accredited graduate degree program in a related major with a grade point average of 2.75 or higher.
  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
  • Applicants for employment with The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (i.e., H1-B or other employment-based immigration case).

Responsibilities

  • Participating in relevant scientific field surveys
  • Attend regulatory, water operations, and water policy meetings.
  • Organizing, formatting, and analyzing data
  • Participate in environment engineering studies
  • Support staff in the review and preparation of scientific literature, regulatory, legislative, and other documents (agreements, permits, deeds).
