About The Position

The Student Recruitment Associate plays a critical role in supporting DC Prep’s enrollment goals by building awareness, interest, and trust among prospective families. This position is highly community-facing and ideal for someone who enjoys relationship-building and representing a mission-driven organization.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children, youth, or families, with a demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships and engage caregivers as partners in students’ educational journeys.
  • Experience in community outreach, enrollment support, student recruitment, or family engagement; familiarity with school enrollment processes is strongly preferred.
  • Strong commitment to educational equity and a demonstrated awareness of historic and current racial and economic inequities impacting families and communities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in Spanish, with the ability to connect effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and follow-up skills, with careful attention to detail when managing family information and outreach activities.
  • Comfort using technology and data systems (e.g., CRM tools, event registration platforms, spreadsheets) to track engagement and support recruitment efforts.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented mindset, paired with the ability to take initiative, think creatively, work independently, and adapt in dynamic, community-based environments.
  • Alignment with DC Prep’s mission, values, and belief in the potential of all students and families.
  • Report in person to all six of DC Prep’s campuses
  • Represent DC Prep at indoor and outdoor events within Washington, DC.
  • Work flexible hours–there may be some evening and weekend hours
  • Must be able to sit and work at a desk/computer for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to spend the majority of the day standing or mobile throughout the classroom, as well as talk, hear, grasp, reach and lift up to 30lbs with or without accommodations
  • Ability to concentrate in active and noisy environments such as cafeterias, gymnasiums, stairs and playgrounds, classrooms and large group professional settings
  • Must be able to walk, stand and monitor crowded hallways, gymnasiums, cafeterias, stairs and playgrounds.
  • Must be able to climb stairs throughout the day and escort students to and from class
  • Must be able to have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on computer and/or related office equipment
  • Ability to handle potential high stress conditions

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the local DC community—especially the Edgewood area—is a plus, as is prior experience in outreach, canvassing, community organizing, or family engagement.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

  • Support DC Prep’s student enrollment goals by executing high-quality outreach and follow-up with Spanish-speaking prospective families.
  • Attend and represent DC Prep at relevant community-based prospecting events, including events hosted by partner organizations and neighborhood groups.
  • Facilitate Spanish-language campus tours at the Edgewood campus (based on family demand), including timely email and phone follow-up for all attendees and no-shows.
  • Host or support weekly Spanish-language virtual open house, ensuring families receive clear, accurate information about DC Prep schools and the enrollment process.
  • Ensure 100% of interest forms marked “Spanish preferred language” receive personalized 1:1 outreach within one business day, via phone, email, or text.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with community-based organizations to generate completed applications from relevant partner pipelines.
  • Provide individualized outreach to Spanish-preferred language families who receive offers, during lottery, waitlist, and rolling enrollment cycles.
  • Accurately track outreach, event attendance, follow-up, and outcomes using DC Prep’s data systems and tools to ensure accountability and continuous improvement.
  • This role requires work and participation during evenings and, on occasion, weekends (e.g., evening open houses and/or community events).
