About The Position

The Goodwill Excel Center Adult High School is currently seeking an Student Success Coordinator for our Norwood Campus, located at 015 Norwood Park Blvd, Austin, Texas 78753.   The Goodwill Excel Center is the first free, public charter high school in Texas that provides adults ages 18-50 the opportunity to earn their high school diploma, complete an in-demand professional certification, and begin postsecondary education. There are seven campuses within the charter district. Two campuses are in Austin: one at the Goodwill Community Center and one in South Austin in partnership with American YouthWorks. The other five campuses are located within correctional facilities across the state. Role and Responsibilities: The Student Success Coordinator holds the primary responsibility for the oversight, development, and leadership of the activities, collaboration, and processes carried out by the Student Success Coaching team where individual coaches may focus on coaching, advising, or a combination of the two, depending on role delineation. This role serves as a support and direct supervisor over the identified coaching staff.  Essential functions include: overseeing student graduation, advising, and career planning process; management of coaching data, documentation and metrics; coordinating activities for the coaching team including student recognition and initiatives, behavioral intervention efforts, attendance monitoring, teacher-coach collaboration, classroom push-ins; and supervision, development, and evaluation of coaching staff.  The Student Success Coordinator may carry a caseload as well depending on size of team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Social Work, Sociology, Human Services, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in teaching, coaching, case management, counseling, advising, or a related field.
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and valid automobile insurance.
  • Demonstrated ability in current or past work settings to oversee and coordinate processes and activities carried out by other individuals.
  • Strong sense of professionalism, administrative ability, and effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Experience with supervisory-type responsibility in human services, education, mental health, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Lead student advising, coaching, and graduation/career planning for the team through the development of processes, protocols, and training for effective coaching.
  • Assign and oversee team case and workloads, working closely with other program leads and departments to ensure equity and distribution of duties.
  • Develop clear, efficient, and effective processes to ensure students are successful and remain engaged from point of entry to graduation.
  • Disseminate information to team members in verbal and written form and via the context of regular team and individual meetings.
  • Lead collaborative efforts regularly between instructional & support staff, transition coaches, family services, mental wellness, operations, career education, student admissions, and success coaches.
  • Participate in collaboration and referral efforts cross-district and cross-company to ensure staff and students have full access to referral avenues.
  • Ensure team carries out proactive and solution-focused attendance interventions daily with attention to ongoing evaluation of barriers impacting student retention.
  • Assist staff with problem-solving student behavioral issues that may arise, ensuring issues are resolved in a manner that promotes student academic and career success.
  • Coordinate with internal and external referral sources to continually stay current on programs within Goodwill and the surrounding community and implement pipelines and referral processes.
  • Oversee the development of meaningful and regular student incentives, events, and initiatives that promote student culture and address key metrics (retention, graduation rates, etc).
  • Coordination with other Leadership to ensure all student-related activities remain aligned, clear, and well-communicated.
  • Oversee the regular flow of information and input by the coaching team including Skyward. documentation (guidance notes, Personal Graduation Plans, withdrawal forms, assessments in custom forms, etc.), student testing, and attendance monitoring.
  • Regularly review data for accuracy, ethical entry, and adherence to quality standards.
  • Develop systems for tracking information to ensure that all team members complete key tasks within established timeframes.
  • Suggest and implement changes to data collection so that documentation remains both consistent and efficient.
  • Hire, train, and develop student success coaches and advisors for the Norwood Campus.
  • Conduct regular meetings with student success coaches and advisors to review strengths and needs, address any problematic issues, and provide career and goal development.
  • Develop team recognition activities, ensuring engagement and connection to mission of organization.
  • Ensure staff members coach utilizing evidence-based methods such as Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused, and Trauma informed.
  • Responsible for all development planning and evaluation of assigned Student Success Coaches
  • Develop and conduct regular training with the team as determined.
  • Work closely with Campus Director(s) to ensure program alignment, thorough service provision to students, and that all activities roll up to campus and district initiatives.
  • Develop and implement processes for effective coordination and collaboration among staff to serve students effectively.
  • Meet regularly with Sr. Director of Student Supports to ensure program continuity, adherence to model, best practices for supervision of staff and coaching of students, and to develop programmatic goals at the District level.
  • Create, monitor, and maintain activities that promote the mission of the school.
  • Participate in regular consultation with Sr. Director of Student Supports for program efficacy and continuity.
  • Student Success Coordinator may maintain a partial caseload to support coaching team efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.
