About The Position

The Student Success Specialist position is a full-time and remote opportunity designed for individuals passionate about supporting student achievement, particularly in online learning environments. This role is integral to the student journey—from recruitment through degree completion. The specialist will support prospective and current students to guide them through academic requirements, create tailored degree plans, and discuss progress to ensure continued success. By using a variety of communication tools and technologies, the Student Success Specialist contributes directly to the goals of the assigned academic programs and the Division of Online and Strategic Learning. Ideal candidates will have at least a master’s degree and a minimum of one year of experience in areas such as advising, recruitment, or program support, especially within online education. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential, along with a student service mindset and the ability to operate academic systems and CRM tools effectively. Preferred qualifications include hands-on experience advising college students, project-based teamwork, and proficiency in student information systems. This position reports to the Lead Student Success Specialist and offers the chance to make a measurable difference in student outcomes through proactive, data-informed advising and engagement strategies. Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution by date of appointment.
  • One year of relevant experience (for example: teaching, counseling, advising, recruitment, admissions, online/distance program support/administration).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • High degree of commitment to customer service
  • Strong focus on detail and task completion
  • Highly organized with good analytical skills
  • Competency in the use of word processing, spreadsheets, database, email and internet applications.

Responsibilities

  • Participate with individual, team, and small group projects and efforts that promote best practices in the areas of strategic learning and student success.
  • Serve as an academic advisor by providing information and encouragement for students to understand and meet specific degree requirements; review students’ prior coursework and current status to determine specific courses needed for degree completion and develop program specific degree plans.
  • Participate in student recruitment, advising, and other success strategies and programs.
  • Participate as directed with any recruitment travel to off-campus sites for promotional activities.
  • Utilize multi-modal tools, and emerging technologies and practices to innovate and discover successful practices.
  • Work closely with upper division and departmental advisors to ensure accuracy of information provided to students.
  • Remain current on university policies and procedures affecting student and program success.
  • Identify, develop, and promote strategies for student retention; support students in monitoring their academic progress; prepare and maintain electronic files; create and utilize report data to identify and address students at risk of not completing program of study.
  • Provide customer focused service in working with students, faculty, staff, administrators and stakeholders.
  • Utilize the CRM (Customer Relationship Management), Retention Solution, and Appointment Scheduling tools: by maintaining an accurate record; assigning and responding to tasks; recording contact notes; utilizing reports and communication plans.
  • Oversee student employees (when assigned) by planning, assigning, and reviewing appropriate student responsibilities and workload.
  • Seek and perform other duties as assigned.
