About The Position

The substitute teacher fills in for an absentee teacher on a non-continuous or ad hoc basis for 10 days or less. The Substitute Teacher’s primary duty is teaching, tutoring, instructing, or lecturing to impart knowledge on students. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. The omission of specific statements of the duties or functions does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Provides classroom coverage for a teacher in the event of absence; refers to teacher lesson plans and notes in conducting routine classroom activities. Maintains knowledge of appropriate response to emergencies or other critical incidents, i.e., fire alarms, evacuation procedures. Monitors activities and behavior of children to ensure the physical and environment safe keeping of students, as well as adherence to appropriate conduct and disciplinary controls. Supervises learning activities, circulates within the classroom and provides assistance and learning support to students. Checks and objectively evaluates students' work; teaches students individually and in small groups reinforcing skills based upon instructional guidelines. Monitors student’s progressive learning skills; makes teacher aware of students learning deficiencies. Enforces administration policies and rules governing students. Clocks-in and out using Paylocity time management system. Performs the extra duties that may include recess/social time, morning and/or afternoon, lunch duty.

Requirements

  • Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • The ability to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • Strong command of both written and spoken English language.
  • The ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to reach, grasp, feel, and see up close and from afar.
  • Must be able to use basic office computer hardware and peripherals, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in written form.
  • Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (15 pounds).
