About The Position

The Substance Use Disorder Counselor’s primary role, under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor and/or Clinical Director, is to utilize their specialized clinical knowledge and clinical skills in counseling, diagnostic interviews, assessments, ASAMs to assist individuals struggling with a substance use disorder in their recovery journey. The Substance Use Disorder Counselor will provide therapy sessions for individuals, groups and families.

Requirements

  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree preferred, but candidate must have no less than a high school education and hold a CDCA with no less than one year experience.
  • Candidate must possess a CDCA with one year experience, LCDCII, LCDCIII, LICDC, LSW, LISW, LPC, LPCC
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 1 years’ experience in an outpatient setting.
  • This position requires the ability to work under stressful conditions and to work irregular hours. Requires sitting for extended periods of time, viewing computer monitors, and keyboarding.
  • Candidates must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate professionally via telephone and in writing. Strong grammar and writing skills are crucial for clear and concise communication with clients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Candidates must achieve competency in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) program, telemedicine services, and any additional software programs utilized by the company, ensuring efficient access and updating of client information. The role requires fine dexterity, adept handling, and proficient gripping abilities to perform various tasks.
  • The candidate must pass all federal and state background checks, and their educational and work history will be confirmed in compliance with company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thoroughinitialassessment and complete theinitialASAM todeterminethe extent of the substance use disorder and to assure proper placement within the level of care forwhichthe client is recommended.
  • Provideevidence-basedindividual and groupcounselingutilizingvarious therapeutic approaches tailored to the client’s needs.
  • Establish clear goals and strategies for the welfare and recovery of the client andmaintaindocumentation of services provided andclient’sprogress/regress.
  • At eachsessionthe counselor willassess forsafety,imminentrisk of harmandrelapse potentialand make referrals to higher levels of care if needed.
  • Work with the client to develop an individualized treatment plan(ITP)according to OMHAS and CARF person/family-centered standards, review andmonitorservices and activities, documenting progress/regress.
  • Complete Continuing ASAMS with clients every30 daysor when a significant event occurs todetermineclient is placed within theappropriate levelof care.
  • Offer education and guidance on the physical, psychological, and social effects of substance use disorder, as well as develop strategies for relapse prevention.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of health professionals, including physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and nurses, to provide integrated care to clients with co-occurring disorders.
  • Collaborate with courts, probation/parole officers, law enforcement,andchild protective servicesagencies toassureclient safety and progress/regress within the client’s recovery journey.
  • Maintainaccurate,up-to-date client records, documenting treatment interventions, progress, and outcomes in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Conduct regular reviews and consultations with clients to assess treatment effectiveness and address any challengesor concerns.
  • Provide crisis intervention services to clients in urgent situations, coordinatingappropriate careand support as needed.
  • Provide random instant urine drug screens as needed.
  • Engage in continuous professional development by attending workshops, seminars, and training sessions to enhanceknowledge and skills.
  • Uphold ethical standards and confidentiality in all interactions with clients and colleagues,in accordance withrelevant state and federal laws.
  • Make appropriatereferralifidentifieddeficiency isoutside of thecounselor’sscope of practice. (MH/ Physical Health).
  • Willingly serve in a professional and collaborative capacity with all other employees of Path Behavioral Healthcare, fully understanding andcomplying withall organizational processes and policies.
  • Collaborate with all supervisors and coworkers to communicate with transparency and drive implementation of the organization’s goals,objectives, and processes.
  • Maintain and organize practice and schedule, be at work on time and ready to work, and leave work at the completion of client care responsibilities.
  • Reduce rescheduling by fully informing theappropriate personofthe necessarytime off work.
  • Maintain strict compliance with HIPPAand 42-CFRguidelines, confidentiality agreements, billing and coding guidelines, and company policy.
  • Maintain a demeanor of positive professionalism and service as a model for others to exemplify the mission and vision of Path Behavioral Healthcare.
  • Maintain an active, unrestricted Ohio licensure to provide theSubstance Use Disorder Counseling Services.
  • Attends all required continuing education opportunities per the regulations of your licensing body.
