About The Position

The Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Lead Locator plans, organizes, and directs work for the Subsurface Utility Location/Designation Crew. The SUE Lead Locator is responsible for all aspects of locating underground utilities, both electronically and physically. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least 5 years of experience in the underground utility locating field.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean Motor Vehicle Report.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to think critically.
  • Ability to travel out of town as needed.
  • Ability to work outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions, and overnight as needed.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and reports timekeeping for all project-related activities.
  • Supervises the daily work activities of SUE Techs on the Utility Location/Designation Crew.
  • Responsible for locating and designating underground utilities vertically and horizontally utilizing Vacuum Excavation Truck, Ground Penetrating Radar, and Electromagnetic designating equipment.
  • Drive, operate, and maintain vacuum excavation and support vehicles to provide vertical location and disposition of underground utilities.
  • Set up and maintain Maintenance of Traffic (MOT).
  • Keeps the vacuum excavation trucks and support vehicles stocked with appropriate equipment, supplies, and tools, paints, flags, signs, asphalt, concrete, etc.
  • Keeps accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe and certify work performed.
  • Coordinates findings with project manager, survey manager, clients, and others with a concern for the project.
  • Responsible for caring for and maintaining all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) issued by the company. Responsible for maintaining a safe work site environment for all utility crew members.
