This SULI student will work on “Upscaling synthesis and propertycharacterizations of nano-structured catalysts”. This individual will have chanceto access to instruments available in both MERF and the DOE Center ofNanoscale Materials (CNM) for conducting various material characterizations.The research results will be summarized as a technical report, and then ascientific paper to be published on peer-reviewed journal. Through the summerinternship, this student can: Understand flow synthesis method for preparing nano-scale materials; Gain knowledge and experience on design of catalyst and performance tests Use a spectrum of analytical tools, e.g. DSL nanoparticle size analyzer, XRD,SEM/EDS, FTIR, EIS and RDE, with operando characterization Gain laboratory experience in safe handling of nano-scale materials in hoods,gloveboxes, during manufacturing, and post-process, as well as waste disposal Learn creative, highly self-motivated and proactive approach towards scientificproblem solving as evidenced by publications/recommendations Publish a high-quality of scientific paper. Education and Experience Requirements The entirety of the appointment must be conducted within the United States. Applicants must be: ‒ Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited institution. ‒ Graduated from an accredited institution within the past 3 months; or ‒ Actively enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited institution. Must be 18 years or older at the time the appointment begins. Must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Must be a U.S. citizen or Legal Permanent Resident at the time of application. If accepting an offer, must pass a screening drug test
