Summer Associate - Corporate Underwriting (Bala Cynwyd, PA)
About The Position
Philadelphia Insurance Companies, a member of the Tokio Marine Group, designs, markets and underwrites commercial property/casualty and professional liability insurance products for select industries. We have been in operation since 1962 and are nationally recognized as a member of Ward's Top 50 and rated A++ by A.M.Best. The Summer Associates Program is PHLYs exclusive internship experience. It will require students to think critically about the daily responsibilities of an insurance professional. You will learn the ins and outs of the internal systems and work alongside professionals to complete team and company objectives. You will learn the impact of your department on the overall company and its success. The Corporate Underwriting team is responsible for developing and tracking various underwriting initiatives such as dynamic portfolio optimization (DPO), priority accounts, and umbrella capacity management. The team also oversees property catastrophe aggregates, pricing tools, and peril-specific guidelines, and provides regular and ad hoc analyses by line of business, product, and cat peril in support of underwriting profitability.
Requirements
- Rising Junior or Senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

- Involvement in community and extracurricular activities is preferred
Responsibilities
- Participation in weekly regional and team underwriting meetings.
- Shadow underwriters to learn and understand key components of common products in the specific line of business as well as learn and maintain knowledge of company workflow and procedures.
- Interact directly with internal PHLY teams in Insurance Operations and Marketing.
- Support the new and renewal submission process.
- Learn the details of the underwriting guidelines and authority levels within the department.
