Philadelphia Insurance Companies, a member of the Tokio Marine Group, designs, markets and underwrites commercial property/casualty and professional liability insurance products for select industries. We have been in operation since 1962 and are nationally recognized as a member of Ward's Top 50 and rated A++ by A.M.Best. The Summer Associates Program is PHLYs exclusive internship experience. It will require students to think critically about the daily responsibilities of an insurance professional. You will learn the ins and outs of the internal systems and work alongside professionals to complete team and company objectives. You will learn the impact of your department on the overall company and its success. The Insurance Operations, Underwriting Small Business Unit intern will be paired with Underwriting staff to work on daily, weekly, or even month-long projects that may involve running various reports, setting up work orders, assisting with special account research projects, performing basic account entry functions, and other tasks to assist a busy and successful underwriting team. Successful individuals will have a curiosity to learn, problem solving mindset and think critically to support the team. Professionalism and maturity are essential. Strong communication skills and ability to develop relationships will be important in this role. Tasks/Projects: Participation in weekly regional and team underwriting meetings. Shadow underwriters to learn and understand key components of common products in the specific line of business as well as learn and maintain knowledge of company workflow and procedures. Interact directly with internal PHLY teams in Insurance Operations and Marketing. Support the new and renewal submission process. Learn the details of the underwriting guidelines and authority levels within the department. Program Overview/Benefits: Program runs June 1, 2026-August 7, 2026; Monday through Friday, 8:30-5:00pm LT Hybrid Schedule – 3 days minimum in the office/week Participation in a team project; teams meet weekly to collaborate and prepare their final presentation which will be delivered to the leadership team at the end of the program Attend weekly department overview presentations delivered by Senior Leadership to gain knowledge of the company and industry Weekly meetings with your assigned mentor On the job training within the department at the direction of the supervising manager Volunteer opportunities Hourly rate range $21.00-$22.00 depending on year in school Opportunities within the program are available nationwide.
