About The Position

Overview: The Assistant Director is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and quality of education for all children within the summer program and is qualified to complete all the Director's responsibilities in their absence. The Assistant Director is accountable for overall operational management by well-established guidelines, including curriculum development, staff and facilities management, and maintaining all DOH Regulations. Qualifications: the Assistant director must hold the qualifications listed in the OCFS Regulation for "Person Responsible for Program Supervision Functions."

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field OR enrolled in an education program that leads to a bachelor’s degree.
  • One year of experience working in childcare, with children, and/or in an educational setting
  • One-year supervising staff members in a childcare program or related field of work
  • Customer service and/or previous work experience
  • Must pass a full background check and health screening
  • High energy.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; technology skills.
  • Ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment.
  • A strong understanding of child development.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates and maintains job-related knowledge

Responsibilities

  • Manage adherence to state and local regulations.
  • Work closely with camp counselors to ensure the pre-planned set of lessons and themes being followed.
  • Manages the overall organization, flow, and parental interactions of the center.
  • Maintain positive relationships with regulatory agencies to ensure legal compliance.
  • Resolve conflicts (including corrective action when necessary) to ensure a positive experience for everyone.
  • Establish illness and emergency procedures; ensure staff is trained appropriately.
  • Be in ratio when needed.
  • Effectively communicates with parents regarding program events and marketing and relays positive and behavioral information about their child(ren) each day.
  • Continues to grow and seek out new skills to perform the job effectively
  • Can stay on task and efficiently manage time while directing a group of children
  • Shows kindness and professionalism to all guardians, coworkers, and adult personnel in the building
  • Shows willingness to float between all different age groups and learn about all children in the program
  • Responds to change positively and direction
  • Consistently provide direct, competent supervision of the children
