About The Position

The Summer Camp Counselor Float is responsible for supporting the delivery of activities, supervision, and organization of summer day camp for youth in grades 3-10. This role also supports consistency in organizational services by being adaptable and working at the location assigned to them the morning of their shift. Schedule: 1) Ideally up to 40 hrs/week training week. Remainder of summer up to 22.5 hrs/week. 2) Monday-Friday. Training week June 1-5, 8 AM - 4:30 PM Remainder of summer, June 8 - Aug 21 schedule is 12 PM - 4:30 PM 3) In person every day. Being a seasonal role, we will be unlikely to accommodate vacation, and we need everyone to finish out the summer season. Training will mostly take place at our Golden Valley location regardless of home site. Wage: $18.50/hour Location: Golden Valley will be the primary site, but requires the ability to fill in at other sites (includes Woodbury, Coon Rapids, and St. Paul).

Requirements

  • Experience working with youth in grades 3-10 preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
  • Strong administrative and process management skills.
  • Strong multi-tasking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with computers, specifically a working knowledge of Microsoft products.
  • Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be comfortable with the emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the use of humane euthanasia.
  • Reliable transportation required.

Responsibilities

  • Enthusiastically greet campers and guardians as they arrive and depart from camp and record attendance.
  • Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in order to meet the intended camper outcomes.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times.
  • Participate in the teaching and progression of lessons and activities, including adapting to differing camper ages, abilities and group dynamics.
  • Engage with campers during activities and games.
  • Assist with the setup and cleanup of camp activities and events.
  • Address and resolve any camper issues or conflicts in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Escalate camper issues or conflicts as appropriate.
  • Provide guardians appropriate feedback and information as needed for their campers to have a successful camp experience
  • Provide support in summer camp programming, including post camp wrap-up.
  • Communicate in a positive and professional manner with customers, other employees, and volunteers.
  • Promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion to make AHS a welcoming environment for all.
  • Clock in and out of shifts using ADP.
  • Monitor AHS email and other messaging software.
  • Other duties as assigned.
