Join the YMCA of Greater Kansas City as a Camp Counselor and help create a fun, safe, and unforgettable experience for kids in your community. Perfect for education majors, future teachers, or anyone who enjoys working with kids. No prior camp experience required—we’ll train you. From swimming and science experiments to field trips to the zoo, Sporting KC, and more—every day is an adventure. As a Camp Counselor, you’ll lead activities, build relationships, and make a lasting impact on the lives of children. Requirements

  • Minimum age of 16 years old.
  • Currently enrolled in high school or has a GED or high school diploma.
  • Ability to accept supervision and guidance.
  • Ability to lead a group in an activity.
  • Good character, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Enthusiasm, patience and self-control.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum age of 18 years old with one year or more of college/higher education preferred
  • Previous summer camp experience.
  • CPR/First Aid/Lifeguard certification.
  • Previous experience working with school age children (may include working as a babysitter, nanny or other childcare program).

Responsibilities

  • Encourage physical, emotional and spiritual growth and positive character development in all campers.
  • Guide groups and individual campers in camp activities, helping them create unforgettable camp experiences.
  • Carry out established roles for supervising the campers’s health and enforcing Y safety regulations to ensure a fun and safe environment.
  • Maintain positive relationships with campers, families and other associates.
  • Develop group activity plans with campers as needed.
  • Stay alert and ready to identify and respond to emergency situations quickly and appropriately.
