About the job: Cougar Camp June 22nd - August 27th, Ages 8-12 Join the team at Cougar Camp, Bend’s historic summer camp located in beautiful Shevlin Park! We are looking for energetic recreation leaders who love working with kids and spending their days outdoors. Cougar Camp provides children with an unforgettable summer experience where they connect with nature, build friendships, and explore the outdoors. Our lively camp staff help lead activities such as creating skits, hiking, biking, swimming, rock climbing, archery, and nature exploration. This is a 4-day, Monday through Thursday camp program , and the third day includes a special camp tradition: a BBQ potluck and overnight stay in tipis under the stars. Mandatory Training Dates: June 1, 10am - 4:30pm June 6, 9am - 4pm June 10, 9am - 1pm (Ti-Pi Set Up) June 12, 2 - 6pm June 15, 3 - 5pm Riley Ranch Nature Camp June 15th - August 28th, 8-12 Join our team at Riley Ranch Nature Camp, located at the beautiful Riley Ranch Nature Reserve. We are seeking enthusiastic recreation leaders who are passionate about working with youth and helping children connect with the natural world. Riley Ranch Nature Camp offers campers the chance to explore the outdoors through hands-on activities such as nature-based crafts, environmental education, games, water play, and guided exploration throughout the reserve. Surrounded by diverse plant life, wildlife, geology, and rich local history, Riley Ranch provides a unique outdoor classroom where kids can learn while having fun. Campers will also participate in off-site field trips throughout the community, visiting local parks for open exploration and traveling to nature centers to learn from environmental educators and local experts. This is a 5-day, Monday through Friday camp program with daily shifts from 8:30am-4:30pm. Mandatory Training Dates: June 1, 10am - 4:30pm June 6, 9am - 4pm June 8, 9am - 4pm June 9, 9am - 1pm (Site Set Up) June 12, 9am - 1pm

Requirements

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age
  • Currently attending high school
  • Some previous work, training/certification or volunteer experience related to position
  • Any satisfactory combination of education, experience and training
  • Some positions may require possession of a driver's license and have 3 years of an acceptable driving history as defined by district driving policy.
  • Some positions may require possession of CPR/First Aide certification to be provided through on-the-job training.
  • Some positions may require certification related to assigned job to be provided through on-the-job training.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs classes or leads recreation activities ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.
  • Creates daily plans for classes and activities within established guidelines and curriculum.
  • Oversees the safety, comfort and progress of participants.
  • Adapts activities as needed to meet the abilities and needs of individuals.
  • Prepares equipment, materials and supplies required for conducting activities
  • Sets up, takes downs and cleans-up after class as required.
  • Completes required documentation such as behavior and incident reports
  • Communicates effectively with the public including providing accurate information related to work assignment and responding to patron and parent questions and concerns.
  • Responds to accidents and incidents according to procedure.
  • Acts as a Mandatory Reporter; reports incidents of child abuse/neglect.
