POSITION SUMMARY: The YMCA of Southern Nevada is looking for enthusiastic, energetic, and dedicated candidates for our Summer Camp programs! Under the supervision Youth Development Director, you will be responsible for the overall creation and implementation of Summer Day Camp. You will assist in the general supervision of camp staff and overall monitoring of daily summer camp operations. You will engage with parents, staff and campers exemplifying the YMCA core values. This is a seasonal in person position with mandatory training dates of May 16th- May 23rd. Summer camp starts May 26th running Monday-Friday throughout the summer, ending on August 7th. We are hiring for all four YMCA locations (Bill and Lillie Heinrich, Durango Hills, Centennial Hills, Skyview YMCAs) Y Camp keeps kids physically active through games, sports, and pool time. Creativity is sparked and learning is promoted through crafts, skits, camp songs, literacy activities, and STEAM projects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics). Character is developed through our Y Ties Initiative, conflict resolution skill building, and by instilling the Y’s Core Values (Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, and Caring) throughout the day.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Two years related experience/training working with children ages 5-14 of which one year includes staff supervision experience.
  • Summer Camp Training - Mandatory training May 16th - 23rd
  • Working with Children training within 30 days of hire
  • Within 30 days of hire, current American Red Cross CPR for the professional rescuer (includes AED) and First Aid Certifications
  • 21 years or older preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the scheduling and organization of daily camp activities.
  • Schedules camp field trips, weekly assemblies and special events related to camp.
  • Performs opening or closing duties for camp programs on a daily basis.
  • Leads and participates in camp 50% of the time.
  • Assists with the administration of camper discipline and communication with parents.
  • Assists with the dispensing of camper medications.
  • Assists with the supervision, training, and evaluation of camp staff.
  • Assists in the general implementation and evaluation of camp programs.
  • Follows specific YMCA Camp Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Responsible for the enforcement of all day camp and YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Ensures safety of all campers.
  • Builds and maintains a high standard of member service for all program participants and serves as a positive role model for campers and staff.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with children.
  • Attends required abuse risk management training.
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Adheres to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
  • Follows employees and volunteers screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk.
  • Provides employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk.
  • Provides employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with youth.
  • Requires employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse
  • Responds quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization’s progressive disciplinary procedures.
  • Responds seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
  • Communicates to all employees and volunteers the organization’s commitment to protect their consumers from abuse.
  • Reports essential abuse risk management information to their supervisor, executive director, or human resources.
  • Directly assists in the supervision of up to 50 employees in the Day Camp Program.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include assisting in interviewing, hiring, and training of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; reporting observations to Youth Development Director.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm in all phases of work with campers and staff.
  • Maintains daily positive communication and work cooperatively with staff.
  • Ensures all camps are properly staffed, equipped and informed daily.
  • Ensures all assigned staff complete necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
