About The Position

The summer environmental intern will assist in performing a variety of data collection and data summary tasks on stream and wetland mitigation banking projects. This person will also perform basic duties for various projects as assigned. Tentative start date of mid- to late May 2026 or early June 2026, with a tentative end date of mid- to late August 2026. Location: Primarily Mississippi with some potential work in Alabama

Requirements

  • Proficient and confident with Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn, plant and wildlife identification
  • Proven track record of meeting deadlines
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Ability to work outside in extreme conditions and traverse multiple miles per day
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited college or university program, with or working toward a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, ecology, biology, forestry or related field of study

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to identify and map Waters of the United States
  • Proficient in GIS computer mapping and in-field GIS data collection methods
  • Education and experience identifying flora of the eastern United States
  • Experience operating farm machinery, including tractors, drill seed and UTVs, as well as chainsaws

Responsibilities

  • Field monitoring and data collection at wetland and stream mitigation sites
  • Perform invasive brush clearing, tree felling, planting, seeding and other restoration activities
  • Provide survey assistance for stream and wetland restoration projects
  • Implement and enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment and increase employee safety awareness
  • Other duties as assigned
