About The Position

We are seeking a summer intern to support data quality control, processing, and exploratory analysis for genomics and next‑generation proteomics platforms. The selected candidate will work with structured biological datasets, contribute to standardized QC and data processing workflows, and gain hands‑on exposure to data infrastructure and basic automation or AI‑enabled approaches. This role provides practical experience in how scientific data is curated, validated, and prepared for downstream analysis in an industry R&D environment.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Data Science/Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Familiarity with common data manipulation, visualization, and analysis libraries in Python/R (e.g., pandas / tidyverse) and Linux systems or MATLAB through coursework or projects.
  • Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the duration of the 12 week internship (May/June ~ August 2026).
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible.
  • Must successfully pass a drug screen and background check prior to assignment target start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to reproducible analysis practices (e.g., scripts, structured documentation, basic version control) and working in notebooks (e.g., Jupyter or R Markdown)
  • Familiarity with basic Genomics wet-lab concepts and techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and next-generation sequencing.
  • Exposure to basic bioinformatics or high-dimensional biology data concepts (e.g., matrices, normalization concepts, dimensionality reduction/cluster visualization) through coursework or independent learning.
  • Familiarity with using AI/ML libraries such as OpenAI or Scikit-learn.

Responsibilities

  • Contributing to the development, testing, or refinement of primary analysis or QC scripts under guidance from senior team members.
  • Assisting with data cleaning, transformation, and processing using Python or R to prepare datasets for downstream analysis and reporting.
  • Conducting basic exploratory data analysis and generating summary statistics and visualizations to assess data quality and trends.
  • Supporting organization of databases in shared repositories to enable traceability, version control, and reproducibility.
  • Assisting with documentation of data workflows, QC outcomes, and analysis assumptions.
  • Gaining introductory exposure to automation or AI‑enabled approaches for data QC under close supervision.
  • Participating in team meetings and presenting progress, QC findings, or small analyses to a scientific audience as appropriate.

Benefits

  • Candidates who are hired for an on-site role or hybrid role, and reside outside of 50-miles from their assigned work location, are eligible for relocation stipend.
  • GSK Interns and Co-ops are offered a competitive hourly pay rate and benefits.
  • Please note, benefits eligibility determined the month following date of hire.
