The Summer Internship Development Program at Versant Health is designed to help you explore your career, learn our business, and develop as a young professional. Throughout the course of this 8-week summer internship opportunity, you will engage in professional and career development workshops, attend fireside chat series with Versant Health’s senior leaders and complete a capstone project. Versant Health: Making Healthy Vision a Reality for Everyone Scope and Purpose of Position: During this summer internship, you will have the opportunity to evaluate the medical code library database. Using your knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system and learned skills you will complete and deliver a capstone project at the end of the program that will include your recommendation of detailed structural changes.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system including payer and benefit variations between Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and commercial insurances.
  • Basic knowledge of informational databases including functional processes.
  • Ability to follow strict requirements of established naming conventions, process definitions and document structures
  • Excellent writing skills including ability to change styles for varying audiences
  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program
  • Graduate degree candidates currently enrolled in a preferred field of study considered
  • Required school classifications: Current Juniors and Seniors only
  • Required GPA: 3.0 and above
  • Classroom and project level experience with basic database use and classification
  • Knowledge of variations within the U.S. healthcare payer systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word
  • Writing at informal and formal levels
  • Curiosity and research skills to expand own knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system
  • Assertive networking skills to validate and verify assumptions while working real time
  • Ability to work independently while using communication tools to stay on track and inform supervisor of progress
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • All Associates must comply with the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) as it pertains to disclosures of protected health information (PHI) as described in the Notice of Privacy Practices and HIPAA Privacy Policies and Procedures. As a component of job roles and responsibilities, Associates may have access to covered information, cardholder data or other confidential customer information which must be protected at all times. As a result, Associates must explicitly adhere to all data security guidelines established within the Company’s Privacy & Security Training Program.
