About The Position

Coverys and Med-IQ are offering engaging summer internship opportunities to work in a hybrid environment and gain hands-on professional experience. Coverys and Med-IQ work in tandem to support and protect the healthcare community, while providing better healthcare for all. Join our established team of mission driven individuals for a robust 8-week internship experience! The program will offer opportunities for young professionals to learn more about the insurance and continuing medical education industries, while performing meaningful work within their assigned department. This will include: Introductory meetings to get familiar with various departments across the organization Coffee chats with leaders and various other employees across the company The ability to be a part of all companywide initiatives including our June Coverys Quarterly Conversation, DE&I Town Halls, and Employee Resource Group meetings And, more! The internship will span 8 weeks from June 8 – July 31. All interns must plan to commit to participating in the full 8-week program, working a hybrid schedule based in one of our offices. In a cover letter, candidates are asked to specify which of the following opportunities they would like to be considered for (the cover letter is required in addition to a resume): Actuarial Reserving (Coverys; Boston, MA office) The Actuarial Reserving team invites an intern to help automate and speed up repetitive processes. Day-to-day responsibilities will include working in Excess (including VBA), SSMS (via SQL), and ResQ, in a blend of independent and guided work. Claims (Coverys; Boston, MA office) The Claims team invites an intern who has an interest in law, medicine, or the litigation field to become immersed in the world of medical professional liability claims. Responsibilities include assisting with data quality review of the weekly opening report and monthly data quality reports; as well as updating State Claim Information Sheets. This includes revising SharePoint, analyzing trial data, updating NetCore claims files, and organizing coverage opinion database. Compliance and Enterprise Risk Management (Coverys; Boston, MA office) The Compliance and Enterprise Risk Management intern will assist with the day-to-day operations of the Vendor Risk Management function. This includes reviewing existing vendor relationships for completeness of required information and responding to business partner inquiries. The intern will provide support to the strategic initiative to enhance the program's effectiveness around governance and on-going vendor oversight. Corporate Communications and Coverys Community Healthcare Foundation (Coverys; Boston, MA office) This intern will have the exciting opportunity to become immersed in two departments – Corporate Communications, and the Coverys Community Healthcare Foundation (CCHF). CCHF is the charitable giving branch of our organization, which strives to positively impact the healthcare community and the communities in which we’re located through philanthropic services. Responsibilities of this intern include grant management support, providing relevant data for grant reporting and public relations materials, and providing continued competitor updates. The intern will work with Corporate Communications in order to monitor and help manage the Foundation’s social media platforms, as well as improve on our current system for tracking and prioritizing projects. Data Engineering (Coverys; Boston, MA office) The Data Squad intern will work with the team of Data Warehouse developers and Data Analysts on various activities that maintain and optimize data pipelines and workflows. This could include assisting in coding and debugging efforts, and assisting with data quality checks, validation rules, and documentation. Under the guidance of senior developers, the intern will write maintainable code, and will also participate in code reviews and team meetings. The intern will learn and follow software development best practices, support performance tuning and optimization of queries, and support analytics and tools such as Power BI. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (Coverys; Boston, MA office) The intern working on our DE&I team will be passionate about cultivating inclusion in the workplace, in support of the Senior Director, DE&I. Responsibilities include day-to-day administrative tasks for ongoing DE&I initiatives such as Employee Resource Group meetings and Townhalls, as well as drafting resources and content for the DE&I SharePoint page. This intern will work to understand how DE&I fits in with the corporate strategy, contribute to the department goals, and assist with the employee mentorship program. Investments (Coverys; Boston, MA office) The Investments intern will become immersed in the economic and capital market environment. They will collaborate with the Chief Investment Officer and the Investment Director to gain an understanding of the investment strategies of an insurance company. Projects will entail assisting with data aggregation and preparation of industry and issuer concentration overlap across our public and private portfolios. The intern will also help research comparison and applicability of secondary Private Equity & Credit market investments vs primary markets. Legal (Coverys; Boston, MA office) The Coverys Legal Department assists every other department at Coverys, providing a wide range of services comprising advice in matters concerning legal, regulatory, government affairs, corporate governance, and more. The Legal Intern will assist the Legal Department in maintaining and strengthening its relationships with other Coverys business units as it meets the legal needs of the company. The Legal Intern will experience and be exposed to the wide range of services provided by an in-house legal team. Responsibilities include research related to legal matters such as employment practices, insurance and general corporate regulatory requirements; maintaining and updating Legal's completed contract inventory; and assisting with filing needs. The intern will have the opportunity to shadow attorneys in various aspects of civil litigation such as depositions or mediation; as well as to attend department meetings and meetings with business units. The intern will also be tasked with updating and revising the Legal Department’s SharePoint site and assisting with department presentations. Social Media Marketing (Med-IQ; Baltimore, MD office) Med-IQ offers continuing medical education to healthcare professionals, and the team is seeking a Social Media Marketing intern. This is an exciting opportunity to assist the marketing team in scheduling educational content and company announcements using X, Instagram, LinkedIn, BlueSky, and YouTube. Responsibilities include content management and posting, drafting captions to ensure alignment with brand voice, maintaining engagement data, as well as researching clinicians active on social media in key clinical areas (i.e. cardiology, oncology, emergency medicine, OB/GYN). The summer intern will update engagement data and compile findings for reporting related to platforms used, topics discussed, frequency of engagement, and follower demographics. They will also have an opportunity to organize Instagram posts and reels by health topic for easier navigation for the general public, as well as suggest improvements for visual consistency and metrics relating to reach, impressions, and engagement rates. Presentation skills will be practiced through summarizing insights to department leadership, as well as recommending new tactics or platforms to enhance Med-IQ’s social media presence. It will be important to stay updated on social media trends and best practices in healthcare marketing. Risk Management Clinical Analytics (Coverys; Boston, MA office) The intern working in Risk Management Clinical Analytics will assist with multiple data pulls using data tools, while learning about the different types of data at Coverys. They will be immersed in learning about how data tables are set up and learning about the analytical process and deliverables. Responsibilities also include assisting with risk management dashboard building and modifications, as well as collaborating with other departments to present data. Technical Support (Coverys; Boston, MA office) The Technical Support intern will provide technical support to end-users via email, phone, and in-person. They will troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues on laptops, printers, and mobile devices. Responsibilities also include assisting with installing, configuring, and updating operating systems and applications. The intern will document issues, solutions, and procedures via ticketing system and knowledge bases, while also assisting with inventory management of IT equipment.
